⚡ Is Your Energy Strategy Ready for What's Next? In a recent article for Australian Manufacturing News, DETA’s Jonathan Pooch (he/him) highlights the growing energy risk facing Australian manufacturers as electricity markets become more dynamic, gas prices remain under pressure, and the energy system undergoes rapid transformation. As a result, energy is no longer a fixed operational cost - it's a strategic business consideration that reaches all the way to the boardroom. Emerging policy and market signals are recognising the value of demand-side flexibility, creating opportunities for manufacturers to shift energy consumption to lower-cost periods, store energy for later use, and respond to changing grid conditions. As Jonathan notes, electro-thermal energy storage (ETES) is among the key technologies enabling greater energy flexibility and resilience. By converting low-cost renewable electricity into dispatchable process heat, ETES can reduce exposure to energy market volatility, improve operational flexibility, and provide long-term cost certainty. As energy markets evolve, the decisions manufacturers make today will shape their future competitiveness, resilience, and cost base. The technologies already exist, and the manufacturers that start planning today will be best positioned to navigate tomorrow's energy landscape.
