No one puts on a school play without a rehearsal, so why wouldn’t you have a dry run for something as important as this? Give yourself the opportunity to test and learn, and have good, early engagement with stakeholders. 👥UNLEASH CROSS-FUNCTIONAL POWER Organising your team around the pillars of the reporting standards i.e. strategy, risk, metrics and measures, will ensure there is clear ownership and accountability across your business. This approach should include strategic thinking about communications and narratives, and engaging experts at the start of the process rather than at the end. 📈UNLOCK THE OPPORTUNITY Mandatory disclosures aren’t just about risk identification. They’re also about businesses thinking about, and unlocking, climate-related opportunities. Look at opportunities in three ways: - Protecting value – by mitigating a risk - Extracting value – by doing things more efficiently and increasing ROI - Creating value – by doing things that haven’t been done before 💰FINANCE: YOUR SECRET WEAPON Finance teams are used to working with very established financial reporting regimes. Leveraging the data and insights gained from compliance efforts enables you to identify areas where you can generate the most value and determine where to concentrate your efforts effectively. 📚LIGHTEN THE REPORTING LOAD Many organisations are spending the same amount of money and time on collating data needed for disclosures separately when there is a huge opportunity to work collaboratively. As the market matures, there’s genuine potential for knowledge sharing and collective capacity building to help reduce the burden, particularly in challenging parts of the supply chain.
