High- and Low-Level challenges facing business owners and leaders in AI adoption

It is predicted that, in the next two years, 40% of agentic AI projects will be cancelled due to one or more of the following factors:

  • Escalating Costs

  • Inadequate Risk Controls

  • Unclear Business Value

Core to these is often poor, incomplete and untrusted data, which inevitably undermines both perceived and actual value. In a quirk of irony, businesses that may consider themselves to have a dated attitude to AI adoption but which do have a very healthy attitude and practices towards data integrity and accuracy, are more likely to benefit from AI migration due to the quality of their core historical data and future adherence to accuracy. Good housekeeping may yet be your making despite the naysayers mocking you for a seemingly dated attitude.

Interestingly, it is also predicted that poor training and transparency are likely to cancel out some of the efficiency gains that AI can offer through previously unforeseen absenteeism and resistance to adoption for the following reasons:

  • Cross-app Fragmentation

  • Lack of Consent

  • Poor Guidance

Left unchecked, these factors are likely to leave all with a negative view of what was hoped to mark a new dawn for a business and, worse still, a lost opportunity.

Andy Raymond – Head of Search at ATA comments:

‘There’s no doubt that the forming and development of the Board and SLT of the future requires an increasing awareness and appreciation of not only the high-level strategic benefits of AI adoption, but also the very real, human challenges of practical and considered integration. We are seeing this reflected in requirements for leaders, with employers seeking measurable, real-world experience in these areas’
