Google’s AI ad disclosure turns “AI-assisted” from a behind-the-scenes production detail into part of the user experience. That means marketers should treat the label like a new creative variable: test how it affects performance, trust, and audience response before assuming the impact is neutral. Read more below ⬇️

OpenAI’s ad roadmap appears to be expanding beyond a single ad unit, with potential formats spanning conversational, interactive, image, video, and native placements. This week’s newsletter breaks down why marketers should start baselining now: clear success metrics, creative governance, audience-intent analysis, and independent measurement will be critical.

As platforms expand their role in selling, optimizing, and measuring CTV and audio, marketers need to be careful not to treat platform-reported “outcomes” as the final answer. This week’s newsletter looks at Amazon’s latest push into outcome-based media and why creative analytics, audience baselines, and independent measurement design are becoming essential for separating true lift from platform-driven signals.

How agencies use intelligence to make better creative decisions: Three capabilities are reshaping how agencies move from brief to campaign not by adding more steps, but by replacing guesswork with evidence. 1. Social listening. Tracking what audiences say across platforms gives agencies a real-time read on sentiment, emerging topics, and shifts in how people talk about a category. It's the difference between assuming what an audience cares about and knowing. 2. Competitor analysis. Mapping what others in the space are running, their messaging, their spend patterns, their creative angles, reveals where a category is saturated and where there's open air. It helps agencies position work to stand apart rather than echo what's already out there. 3. Creative analysis. Breaking down which creative elements actually drive performance, formats, hooks, visual patterns, messaging, turns "this ad worked" into "this is why it worked." That insight compounds across every campaign that follows. On their own, each is useful. Together, they form a feedback loop: listen to the market, understand the field, learn what resonates, then create with that knowledge built in. For agencies, the value isn't doing more analysis. It's making sharper decisions earlier, when they still have the most room to shape the outcome.

OpenAI’s move toward automated ad creative signals a bigger shift: creative is becoming a system, not a static asset. As AI makes it easier to generate, localize, and optimize ads at scale, the real challenge becomes governance, measurement, and preserving learnings.

Trust in media buying is changing. Recent shifts around TAG certification show that advertisers may have fewer shared shortcuts for judging inventory quality. That does not mean brand safety or fraud controls matter less. It means the process matters more. Marketers need a clear, repeatable way to check: - Where ads are running - Whether traffic is real - How supply quality affects performance - Whether creative learnings reflect real human behavior This matters because poor inventory does more than waste spend. It can distort measurement, inflate clicks, and make the wrong creative look like the winner. The takeaway: trust should be measured, tested, and audited throughout the campaign.
