"A new study from OpenAI and Nairobi-based primary care provider Penda Health offers early evidence that large language models may help clinicians reduce medical errors during routine care. Between January and April 2025, Penda deployed an AI assistant called AI Consult across 15 primary care clinics in Kenya. Built using OpenAI’s GPT-4o and tailored to local guidelines, the tool flagged safety issues in real time as clinicians documented visits. Those using AI made 16% fewer diagnostic errors and 13% fewer treatment errors than those without, across nearly 40,000 patient visits.
