Terri Irwin shared thisThe first priority of Trillium Health Partners #Planto2030 is to inspire and invest in a diverse #TeamTHP. As part of this, we had the opportunity for our local leadership teams (arguably the MOST important leaders in our organization) to share the amazing work that they are doing across our THP to support excellence in patient care, excellence in team cohesion, wellness and resilience and also to learn from each other. Huge thanks to the amazing Maria N. and team for planning and meticulously executing this important connection for our patient care leaders. We are truly all #BetterTogetherTerri Irwin shared thisExceptional patient care begins with investing in the people who make great care possible. Last week, leaders from across our organization came together for our inaugural Local Leadership Triad (LLT) Summer Showcase.🎉 Managers, educators, clinical leaders, professional practice, health discipline leaders, directors, and senior executives gathered to learn from one another, share ideas, and explore how to better support our teams and strengthen care delivery. And before anyone asks: yes, patients continued to receive exceptional care while these teams were together in one room. The day reinforced an important truth: outstanding patient care depends on an ecosystem of people working collaboratively to support frontline teams and the patients they serve. What was most inspiring was seeing so many people invest in one another. Sharing ideas, challenging assumptions, celebrating successes, learning from experience, and exchanging practical tools that can move seamlessly from boardroom to bedside. The future of healthcare will be shaped by conversations like these and by the people willing to engage in them. Our keynote speakers, Dean Lising and Dave Clark, helped set the theme for the day and challenged us to think differently about leadership, learning, and high-performing teams. A special Thank you and acknowledgement goes to Swartika Nair, our Senior Project Manager in Professional Practice, and Marissa Trauzzi, Executive Coordinator, whose leadership and planning transformed an idea into reality. Thank you to Wendy Campbell, Manager of Scholarship Development who designed the educational experience, shaped the theme and agenda, prepared our speakers, and helped create a seamless learning environment. Thank you to Domino P., who brought his trademark “Digital Dominance” to the event. His technical expertise, creativity, and innovative use of technology drove engagement, connected teams, and extended learning across the THP enterprise. Thank you to our directors and vice presidents for expertly moderating our panel discussions, our Interprofessional Advisory Committee for sharing their expertise and perspectives, and our Department of Professional Practice for the many behind-the-scenes contributions and facilitation that made the day possible. Most importantly, thank you to every manager, educator, clinical leader, charge nurse, and health discipline leader who participated. Your ideas, innovation, and engagement are helping prepare our organization for the future of healthcare while strengthening support for clinical teams. Finally, thank you to Terri Irwin, EVP & Chief Nurse Executive, for empowering us to bring your inspiring vision to life. This article highlights a reality that nurses, patients and families experience every day: workforce challenges directly impact access to care, patient outcomes and the sustainability of our health system. But I believe we need to move beyond talking about a shortage and focus on building a profession where nurses can thrive. That means investing in safe and healthy work environments, creating opportunities for professional growth, embracing innovation and technology that support care delivery, and ensuring every nurse feels valued and empowered to lead. At Trillium Health Partners, I have the privilege of working alongside extraordinary nurses who demonstrate compassion, resilience and clinical excellence every day. Their commitment to patients inspires us to continue reimagining how we recruit, retain and support the nursing workforce of the future. The future of healthcare depends on the future of nursing. From meaningful conversations to small moments of appreciation (including a few well-loved thank you cookies 🍪), it was a special way to celebrate the people who make care happen every day. Today, I had the privilege of spending time touring our units at our Mississauga Hospital, connecting with teams, listening to stories, and witnessing firsthand the compassion, expertise, resilience, and humanity that our nurses bring to every patient interaction. What struck me most was not only the clinical excellence on display, but the countless small moments that often go unseen — a reassuring hand on a shoulder, a calm voice during uncertainty, a colleague stepping in to help another team member, and the unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional care even on the busiest days. As Chief Nursing Executive and EVP, Patient Care Services, I left every unit feeling incredibly proud and deeply grateful. Nursing is the heart of healthcare, and our teams demonstrate every day what it means to live our commitment to being Better Together. It’s also a reflection of the kind of culture we’re building — where people connect, share knowledge, and grow together. Through hundreds of peer-nominated and adjudicated awards, we celebrate how individual members of Team THP deliver their personal bests in ways that make our entire community stronger. One example is Domino P. — an award-winning nurse who helped shape WeMentor+, our digital peer-to-peer mentoring platform designed to support and develop our teams from within. His contribution, and the many others we recognize this week, reflect something powerful: a culture where people invest in each other and help everyone succeed. This moment of celebrating culture had me reflecting on the transformational change ahead — and the opportunity we have through digital to create exponential improvement in the health of the people and communities we serve. Realizing that opportunity will depend on the kind of culture we build. A few things are becoming clearer: 1. Digital only works in the right culture. It has to be built with the people closest to care. Our point-of-care teams aren’t just users — they are co-designers. That’s where relevance, trust, and impact come from. 2. This is about empowerment — and that’s a cultural choice. The goal isn’t to layer technology on top of the system — it’s to give teams the confidence, tools, and permission to improve how work gets done every day. 3. Partnership reflects who we are, not just how we work. No single organization can do this alone. What we’re building depends on deep collaboration across clinicians, innovators, and system partners — grounded in trust and shared purpose. 4. Momentum comes from culture, not just capability. We are moving beyond ideas and pilots because our teams are leaning in — testing, learning, and scaling what works as part of how we operate every day. Better Together Week is a reminder that transformation doesn’t start with technology. It starts with culture — and the people who bring it to life every day.
