As per the survey, annual salaries of general managers at top luxury hotels in the upper quartile are hovering around Rs 1.15 crore compared to Rs 15.5 lakh for their budget peers, and around Rs 55 lakh for general managers at upscale hotels.

The 13% differential directly impacts consumer choice. • Revenue Leakage – Walk-in diners and even in-house guests increasingly prefer nearby standalone outlets, reducing hotel F&B footfall. • Impact on MICE & Weddings – Higher GST on bundled hotel packages raises event costs, pushing social and corporate functions toward standalone venues. • Compliance Burden – Mixed tariff structures trigger complex ITC reversals and Rule 42 calculations, increasing administrative cost and litigation risk. • Mid-Market Trap – With inflation, ₹7,500 is no longer a luxury benchmark. Mid-scale hotels crossing this threshold face a sudden tax jump that impacts their entire F&B business. Hospitality F&B is a distinct profit centre, not merely an extension of room revenue. A uniform GST framework for restaurants—irrespective of hotel tariff—would restore competitive neutrality and support sustainable industry growth.
