About us

Voliro builds advanced aerial robots that don't just fly and see - they touch. Born out of ETH Zurich's Autonomous Systems Lab, Voliro has pioneered a new category in industrial inspection: contact-based drone inspection. Our patented tiltable-rotor platform, the Voliro T, physically interacts with structures to perform Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), ultrasonic thickness measurements, and Lightning Protection System (LPS) inspections with no scaffolding, no rope access, no shutdowns required. The Voliro T is equipped with interchangeable sensor payloads and AI-powered flight control, enabling pilots to inspect flare stacks, storage tanks, chimneys, wind turbines, and other critical assets while they remain in service. With its tiltable rotor system, Voliro expands the abilities of service drones from “fly and see” to “fly, see and touch”. Voliro T, our flying robot, can be equipped with a variety of payloads, such as Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) or Lightning Protection System (LPS) sensors. The unique 360° drone design of Voliro T allows inspection of curved and sloped surfaces. No other flying inspection robot boasts these capabilities. Voliro aims to provide innovative UAVs with unique capabilities. We promote the concept of an omnidirectional aerial robotic platform, where position and orientation of the flying platform are completely independent. This ability is crucial to achieve robust and reliable interaction with the environment. Our mission: make the world's critical infrastructure safer, more reliable, and easier to maintain without putting people at risk.

    Voliro’s new High-Voltage LPS Ground Station is here ✨ The high-voltage LPS test is a continuity check. It reports the voltage required to reach continuity and ramps up to 15,000 V to bridge air gaps like a lightning strike, confirming continuity where a standard micro-ohmmeter might read an open circuit. What are the benefits of Voliro's high-voltage LPS solution❓ ✅ Voliro's high-voltage testing works on ENERCON, thick-coated Nordex Group, and Vestas LCTU blades, where a low-voltage needle either can't make reliable contact or reads a spark gap as a false open. ✅ No nacelle climb for the continuity check. The high-voltage test bridges spark gaps and the LCTU electrically, so no technician has to enter the nacelle to bridge them, reducing access time and safety exposure. ✅ Low and high-voltage testing in one ground station. Both methods run from a single Voliro LPS ground station, with the option to auto-switch between low-voltage and high-mid-flight. ✅ AI-guided receptor contact. Voliro's AIM (Automated Inspection Maneuvering) recognizes LPS receptors and contacts each on the first attempt.     𝐁𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝟗𝟖% 𝐒𝐮𝐥𝐟𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐀𝐜𝐢𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐓𝐚𝐧𝐤 In this project, we carried out Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement (UTM) using Voliro as part of a post-maintenance asset condition assessment on a storage tank. Given the highly corrosive nature of sulfuric acid, monitoring material thickness plays a vital role in maintaining the tank's structural integrity throughout its operational life. Using contact-based UTM technology, thickness measurements can be collected directly from various areas of the tank shell, providing reliable data for condition assessment. Every measurement point represents more than just a number—it provides valuable insight into the asset's actual condition and supports informed decisions for future inspection and maintenance activities.     One reason I love working with robotics companies like Voliro: You get to experience the coolest product demos. Their drones are almost look like an angel hovering in the sky. Coming from ETH Zürich, I’ve always loved mechatronics. Whether in human implants or robots, I always wanted to work close to the frontier of innovation to see it in action. And now I get to do exactly that, with some of the most innovative companies coming out of ETH. Robotics, neurotech, sustainability and more. Supporting GTM in DeepTech is absolutely fascinating.
