We asked Suman Bala the following: You have written a book “ How can I test this” with four other practitioners – how did it come to that and how was the writing process for you and the cooperation among so many creators? When Nicola first reached out about the "How Can I Test This?" book, I knew I wanted my chapter to actually be useful – not just something people read once and forget. So I leaned into heuristics, since they're something readers can genuinely take away and use. We ended up agreeing on a structure that every chapter would follow: Set the Scene, Product Context, Questions, Test Ideas, How I Would Limit Scope, Which Test Heuristics I Would Apply, and Tools/Other Resources. Honestly, the writing process is one of my favourite parts of this whole story. With five authors, it could easily have turned into five separate mini-books just bundled together. But it never felt that way. We all read and reviewed each other's chapters, and we genuinely cared about making each other's writing better – not "your chapter" or "my chapter," just our book. Everyone had an equal voice in it, and that made the collaboration something really special. And then the book came out, and seeing testimonials start coming in from the wider community, that's when it really hit me how worth it the whole thing was. I'd do it again in a heartbeat, honestly. The book, “How Can I Test This?”, is available on Leanpub, and part of the proceeds go to charity too, which makes it even more special to be part of. That experience is actually why I'm not done yet – Parveen Khan and I are already working on the structure for a new book, a Quality Engineering Playbook. Early days, but I'm really excited about it. We asked Monica Oyugi the following: Which arguments work best, from your experience, to convince people that diversity matters and everybody profits from inclusion? The arguments that usually work best are the ones that connect inclusion to outcomes people can actually see: better decisions and fewer blind spots, stronger problem–solving and innovation, improved teamwork and performance when everyone feels respected and able to contribute, and stronger communities because services and workplaces end up reflecting real needs. People also respond well when inclusion is framed as fairness plus effectiveness, not just values, but something that helps the whole group function better, retain talent, and reduce conflict or risk.
