🚧 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗸𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗵ü𝘁𝘁𝗲 🚧 Our next battery energy storage project is officially under construction. Together with our partners, local representatives and the Terra One team, we celebrated the groundbreaking of our 15 MW / 30 MWh battery energy storage system in Tangerhütte, Saxony-Anhalt. Once operational, the system will store surplus wind and solar energy and feed it back into the grid when it is needed most. In doing so, it will increase grid flexibility, relieve the regional electricity network and accelerate the integration of renewable energy. We were honoured to celebrate the groundbreaking alongside representatives from politics, industry and the local community. The ceremony featured remarks from Maximilian Bodewein and Philippe Lehmann on behalf of Terra One, Carl Zoellner, CCO of INTILION, Thomas Wünsch, State Secretary at the Ministry for Science, Energy, Climate Protection and the Environment of Saxony-Anhalt, and Andreas Brohm, Mayor of Tangerhütte. We were also pleased to welcome Dr. Franziska Kersten, Member of the Deutscher Bundestag, whose presence underlined the growing importance of battery storage as a key piece of energy infrastructure for both the region and Germany's energy transition. 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀. A recent study by Fraunhofer IEE and the German Renewable Energy Federation (Bundesverband Erneuerbare Energie e.V. (BEE) highlights just how critical battery storage has become for the success of the energy transition. The study examined the impact that additional flexibility could have had on the German power system between January 2025 and May 2026. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀: ⚡ 20 GW of additional battery storage with a four-hour duration would have closed most of today's flexibility gap. 📉 Around 70% fewer hours with negative electricity prices, as surplus wind and solar generation could have been stored instead of being sold into the market at negative prices. 💶 More than €5.5 billion in economic savings, driven by lower electricity costs, reduced renewable support payments, and an improved electricity trade balance. 🌱 55% less curtailment of renewable energy, allowing significantly more clean electricity to be put to productive use. 📈 At the same time, the business case for new wind and solar projects would improve significantly, as the risk of negative electricity prices would be greatly reduced. Studies like this reinforce our mission at Terra One: accelerating the deployment of battery storage and bringing our growing pipeline of projects live. Alongside our projects in Oersdorf, Visbek, Tangerhütte and Armstorf, more than 400 MW of medium- and high-voltage battery storage projects are expected to reach ready-to-build status soon. With every project we deliver, we're adding more flexibility to the grid and helping build a cleaner, more resilient, and more efficient energy system. 🔋 𝗔𝗿𝗺𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗳 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗙𝗜𝗗, 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝟯𝗿𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗙𝗜𝗗 𝗶𝗻 𝟯 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀 🔋 We're proud to announce that our Armstorf battery storage project in Niedersachsen has reached Final Investment Decision. With the EPC contract signed and Notice to Proceed issued, construction is now underway. 🚧 Armstorf follows 2 other projects collaborated with be.storaged GmbH: Visbek (in construction) and joins Oersdorf (15 MW / 30 MWh) live since 1st of January 2026, in our operating and near-operating fleet. Another project in construction is Tangerhütte (15 MW / 30 MWh) with commercial operation date of Q4-2026. Three FIDs in three months is our integrated model working as designed 🔥🔥🔥 And that model doesn't stop at construction. Terra One develops BESS projects in-house, builds them, and then optimizes and trades them on 𝗢𝗻𝗲𝗞𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗸: our proprietary optimization platform already in use to optimize our own and 55 3rd-party assets. Greenfield to dispatch, all under one roof, which is how we achieve market-beating project returns. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗙𝗖𝗔𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻'𝘀 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗸? In May, the Fachagentur Wind und Solar took an important step by publishing the first model contract for Flexible Connection Agreements (FCAs). It gives grid operators and energy-sector players a practice-oriented instrument to implement flexible grid connections under Section 8a of the German Renewable Energy Act (EEG) with legal certainty. So, for the first time, grid operators and project developers have a practical tool to share existing grid connection points, instead of waiting for grid expansion. At Terra One, we've already had good experience with FCAs in our work with EWE NETZ: we connected our storage project in Visbek to the grid via one of their first FCAs. But we also know from experience that a model contract alone won't address every challenge. With more than 850 distribution grid operators in Germany, there is still a risk of a patchwork of individual negotiations in which imbalances of risk, information and power can render projects unfinanceable. The Bundesverband Neue Energiewirtschaft e.V. (bne) is therefore calling for a nationwide standard anchored directly in the EEG, including: 🔹 a legal right to flexible grid use 🔹 accelerated grid capacity information 🔹 a clear right to overbuild 🔹 reliable legal consequences Because only what is predictable is bankable. And only what is bankable gets built. So, are FCAs the answer? They're a strong start. But we agree with the bne: we need standards that help batteries scale reliably and quickly.
