No company would accept a Head of Sales saying: "We don't need a CRM - we manage pipeline in a spreadsheet." That person would be laughed out of the meeting (or the company after all). But in Global Mobility, the business case often gets questioned. Even though you're managing literally the worst nightmare of any CFO: 𝗱𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝘅𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸𝘀 🙅♂️ (I genuinely get chills thinking about paying tax twice) The business case is simple. Like Sales with a CRM, the goal is maximum output from a small, sharp team doing strategic work - not burning their days on admin or fighting (compliance) fires. Every other function went through this transformation. Marketing did. Sales did. Finance did. Global Mobility is one of the last functions without a proper operating system. That's changing now! “Only hire A players” - lazy advice or golden rule? One insight from the AI Org Builders Summit we hosted two weeks ago with top Munich founders stuck with me. It was the kind of clarity that only comes from learning it the hard way. “Everyone tells you to only hire A players.” “I made the mistake of hearing, but not understanding what this means for us early on” shared one founder that shall remain unnamed here. They assumed A players meant logos and seniority. What they actually hired were B players. At Pre Seed, without customers or proof, your hiring reality is simple. You can attract inexperienced A players or experienced B players. Choosing “Option B” requires less hiring skill, but costs dearly. My advice to founders we support with hiring. Identify the capabilities the role truly needs. E.g High problem solving ability. Learning speed. Ownership mindset. Do not compromise on this. Also do not shrink your talent pool by over-indexing on tenure or company names. The good news: you can move the scale with a high effort hiring process. Clear role definition. Real problem based interviews. Fast feedback. Strong founder involvement. Experience in itself is increasingly overrated. As AI lowers the cost of intelligence and change accelerates, adaptability beats pedigree.

Total Rewards Reloaded in Berlin: the future of Reward beyond Pay Transparency? I believe that is the AI challenge! My trusty little black book is bursting with fresh insights, bold questions, and a few cryptic notes (the universal sign of a good conference, right?). I loved peopling at scale. Nothing beats reconnecting with familiar faces and making new connections that challenge my thinking! This year, I had the chance to run a “Challenge Your Peers” session on AI in Total Rewards. Here are the key takeaways from our session: 1️⃣ As with any change, people need to see “what’s in it for me?“ Start bottom-up with simple use cases, but match with clear top-down direction. 2️⃣ “Convenient confusion” (letting ambiguity linger because it’s easier than making tough calls) is not a strategy. Clarity is. 3️⃣ Data is king: clean, accessible, and fit for purpose. 4️⃣ AI can prep recommendations, but humans must stay in the loop and accountable. Letting imperfect data drive decisions? That’s just feeding the beast and inviting misinterpretation. 5️⃣ What do we want AI to tackle? Job evaluation, mapping, benchmarking, repetitive queries, personalized info digests, and smarter internal comms: all the “eat your vegetables” tasks that free us up for real impact. Final thought: The question isn’t whether AI will transform our function. The research and data shows it already is (see some of the insights in the first comment). The real question is: Will we lead the transformation with both smarts and heart, or let others script the future for us? And now it is time for me to go through all my other notes in the little black book and digest.
