Ireland's Women in Finance Charter has published its fourth annual report, highlighting continued progress in improving female representation across Ireland's financial services sector. Our Department supports the Charter through its secretariat role, while the Co-Chairs of Balance for Better Business are represented on the WIF Steering Group. Since the Charter was established in 2022, female representation at all levels has increased across participating organisations, reflecting ongoing efforts to support greater gender balance in leadership. Yesterday, Peter Burke appeared before the European Parliament’s Committee on Transport and Tourism to outline Ireland’s aims for the tourism sector during its Presidency of the Council of the European Union. He emphasised the role tourism plays in supporting economic growth, regional development and employment across the EU. He also spoke about the European Commission’s forthcoming EU Sustainable Tourism Strategy, which presents an important opportunity to shape a more resilient, competitive and sustainable future for the sector. 📒 🗨️ He said: “Tourism is one of Europe’s most important economic sectors, supporting millions of jobs and contributing significantly to regional and rural development. 📢 Supporting Workplace Awareness Through Education and Outreach The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) has established a new Knowledge Development and Outreach Services Unit to enhance the delivery of workplace relations information, education and engagement initiatives across Ireland. The Employment (Contractual retirement Ages) Act 2025 came into effect on 29 June. It allows eligible employees to request to remain in employment up to the State Pension age of 66 where their contractual retirement age is lower. The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) updated Code of Practice on Longer Working provides clear guidance to help employees and employers understand how this new employment right works in practice. The Government has today approved a proposal from Minister Peter Burke to draft a Leave for Pregnancy Loss Bill. For the first time under Irish law, the Bill will introduce statutory leave for pregnancy loss prior to 23 weeks gestation. Existing maternity leave provisions apply where a loss occurs from 23 weeks gestation onwards.
