DegreeLabs is a student capability development platform that helps students move beyond theoretical learning and build real-world problem-solving capability. Through our structured Discover → Validate → Grow framework, students learn to work on real industry challenges, develop research-backed solution frameworks, receive mentor guidance, and progress toward company-reviewed opportunities. Our model begins with Discovery, a 4-week capability development program where students learn how to understand real problems, conduct structured research, use AI-enabled workflows, collaborate in cross-functional teams, and present practical solution proposals. In the Validation stage, companies review and shortlist student proposals for validation sprints, where students demonstrate execution capability and refine their solutions through direct company interaction. In the Grow stage, selected student teams move into real execution opportunities and paid project pathways. Students who are not immediately shortlisted are not left behind. They continue through the DegreeLabs Opportunity Pool, where they can explore real challenges, collaborate with teams, and submit proposals for company review.     Karnataka is building AI infrastructure. But who is building AI-ready graduates? The announcement of Karnataka’s AI University and AI Innovation Hub is a significant step forward. It shows that AI is no longer a future trend. It is becoming part of our education ecosystem, economy, and workforce. But here’s the question that every educator, institution, and student should ask: Will access to AI automatically create capable graduates? I don’t think so. Knowing how to use AI tools is only the beginning. The graduates who will stand out over the next decade will be those who can: • Frame the right problem before asking AI for answers. • Validate information instead of accepting it blindly. • Think critically when AI gets it wrong. • Collaborate with people across disciplines. • Turn ideas into practical, measurable solutions. This is where higher education must evolve. Degrees will continue to provide knowledge. But industry is increasingly looking for evidence of capability. Not just what students know. But what they can solve. As Karnataka strengthens its AI ambitions, institutions have an opportunity to move beyond teaching AI and start developing AI-ready problem-solvers.   • 🚨 We asked a room full of Higher Education Leaders and Industry Leaders 5 simple questions. The results were eye-opening. At our recent Higher Education Leadership Event in Bengaluru, during the presentation "From Degrees to Capability", we asked educational leaders and industry experts whether they agreed with some of the biggest challenges facing higher education today. The consensus was clear: 📌 89% agree students today have access to more knowledge than any previous generation. 📌 75% agree that knowledge alone is no longer enough to make students employable. 📌 81% agree employers increasingly evaluate students based on problem-solving, communication, and execution capability. 📌 94% agree many students still graduate without sufficient industry exposure. 📌 92% agree higher education must focus on building measurable student capability before graduation. The message from both academia and industry was unanimous: The challenge is no longer access to knowledge. The challenge is transforming knowledge into capability.
