Karnataka is building AI infrastructure. But who is building AI-ready graduates? The announcement of Karnataka’s AI University and AI Innovation Hub is a significant step forward. It shows that AI is no longer a future trend. It is becoming part of our education ecosystem, economy, and workforce. But here’s the question that every educator, institution, and student should ask: Will access to AI automatically create capable graduates? I don’t think so. Knowing how to use AI tools is only the beginning. The graduates who will stand out over the next decade will be those who can: • Frame the right problem before asking AI for answers. • Validate information instead of accepting it blindly. • Think critically when AI gets it wrong. • Collaborate with people across disciplines. • Turn ideas into practical, measurable solutions. This is where higher education must evolve. Degrees will continue to provide knowledge. But industry is increasingly looking for evidence of capability. Not just what students know. But what they can solve. As Karnataka strengthens its AI ambitions, institutions have an opportunity to move beyond teaching AI and start developing AI-ready problem-solvers. Because in the AI era, information will be abundant. Judgement, execution, and the ability to solve real-world challenges will remain the true differentiators. Where learning ends, solving begins.
