❓ Is AML really in conflict with data privacy? Or have we been asking the wrong question? 🤔 This was the central theme of our latest Fintelekt - Asian Bankers Association webinar, where compliance leaders from the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Zambia shared how their institutions are navigating one of today's biggest regulatory challenges. A clear consensus emerged: AML and data privacy are not competing objectives. They are complementary disciplines. The real challenge lies in governance, implementation and creating the right balance between protecting customer information and protecting the financial system. Some key takeaways from the discussion: ✅ Better governance, not more data, is becoming the competitive advantage for AML programmes. ✅ Transparency with customers is now just as important as regulatory compliance. Frontline teams need to explain why information is collected, not simply that it is required. ✅ Privacy does not have to slow innovation. Strong data governance can actually make AI-driven financial crime detection more effective. ✅ Regulators are increasingly recognising the need for information sharing and cross-sector collaboration to combat financial crime. As Sheila Ricca Dioso aptly observed: "I think it's less of an existential conflict, but more of a structural friction." This single statement perfectly captured the discussion. The future of AML won't be defined by choosing between #privacy and #compliance. It will be shaped by institutions that integrate both into a single #governance framework built on #trust, #collaboration and #responsible use of data. A huge thank you to our excellent panelists Sheila Ricca Dioso, Thilani Punyawansa and Joseph Muvombo for sharing practical experiences from three different jurisdictions, and to the hundreds of compliance professionals that joined us from across the region. Training a few compliance professionals is valuable. Equipping an entire organisation to recognise and respond to financial crime risks is transformational. It has been a privilege for Fintelekt to partner with NIC ASIA BANK, Nepal, where over the past few months, more than 3,000 employees participated in Fintelekt's training and certification programme on "Understanding AML/CFT and KYC in Banking". Drawing on practical case studies and real-world experiences shared by our trainer Ravi Lahoti, this e-learning programme strengthened the understanding of AML/CFT fundamentals, customer due diligence, identifying suspicious behaviour, and the role every employee plays in protecting the integrity of the financial system. To celebrate this milestone, Oliver Dickson, Vice President at Fintelekt presented the bank with a Recognition of Excellence in AML/CFT Capacity Building in acknowledgement of the bank's commitment to building awareness and embedding a strong culture of compliance across the organisation. We are grateful to NIC Asia Bank for placing its trust in Fintelekt. Our objective extends beyond delivering training. We strive to bring global best practices, practical insights, and international perspectives that help raise AML/CFT standards across institutions. As #Nepal continues to strengthen the effectiveness of its AML/CFT framework following its Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey-listing, building awareness and capability across the financial sector has never been more important. Congratulations once again to the entire team at NIC Asia Bank on this milestone. We are proud to have been part of this journey. Arpita Bedekar Shirish Pathak Tanya Tanisha

Real progress in #AML #CFT takes place when awareness starts at the top. When #boards lead the conversation, the entire organisation follows. Fintelekt recently conducted an AML/CFT Strategic Training for Siddhartha Bank Limited in #Nepal. Our expert trainer Vikas Tandon steered an interactive conversation in which the board of directors and senior management explored important questions: ❓ How are financial crime risks evolving? ❓ Is the institution's AML/CFT framework keeping pace? ❓ What information should the Board receive to effectively exercise oversight? ❓ And how can leadership ensure that compliance becomes a source of resilience rather than simply a regulatory necessity? At a time when financial institutions across the region are expected to demonstrate not just technical #compliance but strong #governance and #effective leadership, Siddhartha Bank's commitment to investing in board-level capability is both timely and commendable. To mark this important initiative, Fintelekt was honoured to present Siddhartha Bank with a Recognition of Excellence in AML/CFT Leadership and Governance, acknowledging the bank's commitment to strengthening oversight, building informed leadership, and fostering a culture of compliance from the top. Today at the launch of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF)'s Roadmap on Combatting Fraud (2026–2028), the message was clear: Fraud has become one of the defining financial crime challenges of our time, demanding greater collaboration, faster action and a stronger focus on effectiveness. The UK Presidency of the FATF that starts today has set three clear priorities for the next two years: ✔️ Combatting fraud ✔️ Improving implementation of the risk-based approach ✔️ Enhancing information sharing to tackle financial crime Acknowledging that fraud has become one of the defining financial crime challenges of our time, the discussions during the launch of the roadmap reinforced that alongside traditional AML tools, success will increasingly depend on real-time intelligence, cross-sector collaboration, stronger public-private partnerships, effective supervision, and the ability to demonstrate outcomes rather than processes. At Fintelekt, we welcome this direction, as the roadmap provides an important framework for shaping the next generation of learning and professional development. Over the coming months, we will continue aligning our conferences, workshops, leadership forums and training programmes with these emerging priorities in helping compliance professionals, regulators and investigators translate global expectations into practical action that strengthens effectiveness. Acknowledging all the speakers and panelists who shared their views so succinctly at the launch event - Giles Thomson Violaine Clerc Shana Krishnan Brendan Thomas Oramone Chantapant Bello H. Marc Brown Jean-Jacques Sahel Rima Amin Jessica Renier Justine Walker Nick Maxwell J. Edward Conway Peggy Pao-Keerthi Pei Yu Lo Chung Wong (Bert) Paul Ketter Bruno R Mina Chiang Melissa Sevil APG Secretariat Esteban Sergio Fullin Suliman Aljabrin Ben Aldersey Lara Douglas Lori Baker The next phase of AML is not simply about technical compliance. It is about delivering measurable impact against increasingly sophisticated financial crime. We wish Giles Thomson, President FATF and Vivek Aggarwal, Vice President FATF the very best in achieving this goal. Shirish Pathak Arpita Bedekar

Mark your diary for July 15 at 3.00 PM Singapore Time to attend the Fintelekt-ABA webinar on Balancing AML and Data Protection Obligations! We will discuss: ✅ Areas of friction between AML/CFT obligations and data privacy requirements across jurisdictions; ✅ Challenges related to cross-border information sharing, data localization, and customer data access; ✅ Practical implications for transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, KYC, and investigations; ✅ How can financial institutions design governance and controls to balance both obligations; ✅ Regional experiences and emerging approaches to regulatory interpretation and implementation. What makes a compliance programme truly effective? Relevance. Over the past four days, we at Fintelekt had the privilege of hosting the AML/CTF Compliance Week for the Casino & Gaming Sector in the #Philippines, a program designed exclusively for PAGCOR (Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation) covered persons spanning casino, gaming and integrated resort operators. Rather than taking a generic approach to #AML/ #CTF, every session was curated around the realities, risks and operational challenges of the #casino and #gaming industry. From gaming-specific money laundering typologies and source of funds assessments to transaction monitoring, suspicious transaction reporting (#STRs), technology, #governance and emerging threats, the discussions remained practical, topical and directly relevant to the sector. Our objective was simple: to help move AML/CTF compliance in the Philippine gaming industry a notch higher by bringing together global perspectives and practical best practices. A program of this nature would not have been possible without the support and partnership of PAGCOR and the Anti-Money Laundering Council of the Philippines (AMLC). We are sincerely grateful for their collaboration and guidance in shaping this initiative. Their participation brought an important regulatory perspective to the discussions, while the agenda itself was developed with their valuable inputs on the issues that are most critical for the industry today. This close collaboration reflects a shared commitment to strengthening AML/CTF compliance across the Philippine gaming sector. We were also honoured to be joined by an outstanding faculty of regulators, law enforcement professionals, industry practitioners and global subject matter experts who shared their knowledge, experiences and lessons from jurisdictions around the world. Their willingness to engage openly with participants made the discussions particularly rich and practical. Atty. Wilma "Amy" Eisma, Atty. Dave Sevilla, Atty. Arnold Kabanlit, Geert DELRUE, Elia Martins, Grace Collington, Anthony Quinn, Abhishek Bali, Edgar Lopez, Dr. Tanya McCartney, Louise Lane The response from participants has been immensely encouraging. We are delighted that attendees found the program highly relevant, practical and immediately applicable to their day-to-day roles. Knowing that the discussions have added value to the compliance community is the greatest measure of success for us. Thank you to all our speakers, partners and participants for making the Compliance Week such a meaningful success. Shirish Pathak, Arpita Bedekar, Divyani Rane

From the very first outreach session conducted 20 years ago jointly with the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU-IND) in 2006, to the one conducted last week on 19 June 2026 for the non-banking financial services sector in Mumbai, at Fintelekt our commitment to increasing the awareness of reporting entities and being a trusted partner to #FIU, #supervisors and #regulators keeps growing stronger; not just in India, but globally. Our mission is simple, yet powerful - Uniting Stakeholders to Build a Stronger AML Regime - and as we conclude the umpteenth outreach session, we are grateful to all stakeholders, be they reporting entities, regulators, service providers, judiciary, tax authorities or law enforcement, for their support in strengthening our efforts by contributing their time, efforts and knowledge in uplifting sectors that need to move up the value chain of AML compliance, and in turn, collectively making the world a safer place. Such outreach programs, supported wholeheartedly by the FIU-IND, truly help in making learning pervasive and practical, enable peer-to-peer discussions and help compliance officers build networks that will benefit them in future. Our sincere gratitude to Raviraj Kalshetti, Deputy Director, FIU-IND; Ram Milan, Assistant Director, FIU-IND; Prashant Sinha, Abhishek Jain of ZIGRAM for bringing in deep insights and implementable ideas to assist the #NBFC sector in its efforts to become not just technically compliant, but eventually effective. Participants who joined us for the session - thank you so much for the passionate engagement and interaction - it motivates us to do even more for the industry. The #Fintelekt team was in Bangkok last week, hosting our two-day Regional Workshop on Fraud Management: Dealing with Scam Centres, Mule Accounts and Virtual Assets. The workshop brought together financial crime compliance professionals from 10 countries from banking, insurance, fintech and regulators, alongside an exceptional faculty of practitioners and subject matter experts who generously shared their experiences, insights, and practical approaches to tackling emerging threats. Ravi Lahoti, Ryan Winch, Jason Richards, CPA, CAMS, Chanunporn Aueaksorn, CFE, Agnes Rea Kumar, Jonathan S. The discussions were rich, candid, and highly practical. Through interactive sessions, case studies, and peer exchanges, participants explored what institutions can do today to strengthen governance, improve detection and analytics, enhance investigations, and build stronger collaboration mechanisms to stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated criminals. In a rapidly evolving risk environment, no organisation can rely on yesterday's controls. #FinancialCrime risks are becoming more interconnected, technology is reshaping the threat landscape at an unprecedented pace, and criminals are quick to exploit new vulnerabilities. Forums like these are invaluable because they help practitioners challenge assumptions, exchange practical insights, and translate global trends into actionable strategies, even while building lasting professional connections. A big thank you to all the participants, speakers, and our partner, the Asian Bankers Association, for making this workshop such a success. The energy in the room and the openness of the discussions reaffirmed the importance of building a strong and collaborative #financialcrimecompliance community across the region and beyond.
