As a YSIAC Council Member, I am eagerly looking forward to being in Kolkata next week as part of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre's inaugural visit to the City of Joy. On 28 July, I will have the pleasure of opening the SIAC–YSIAC event on - “Emerging Trends in #Arbitration: What Businesses Need from Arbitration and Institutions” - bringing together an excellent panel spanning some of the leading voices from the Bar, business and #internationalarbitration, to discuss how institutional arbitration is evolving in response to the changing expectations of its users. This visit also has a special resonance for me. I was born and brought up in Calcutta, schooled at St. Xavier's, studied law at #NUJS (2nd batch), and spent the formative years of my career in the city. Both my parents were members of the Calcutta Bar, and I remain a proud member of the Incorporated Law Society at Calcutta. While much of my twenty years at the #Bar has since been spent elsewhere, Kolkata has never ceased to be home. With Homer's Odyssey very much back in the cultural conversation, I have found myself thinking about its enduring theme of nostos, - and what it means to return. For me, SIAC's first visit to #Kolkata will be about conversations on international commercial arbitration and its future, in a city with a formidable #legal tradition—and one that shaped my own beginnings in the profession. But, on a more personal note, it will also be something of a homecoming. The new Policy is designed for hyperscale/ large data center developments with a minimum installed IT load capacity of 150 MW. It introduces a substantially enhanced incentive package comprising long-term power-related benefits, interest subsidies, GST reimbursements, support for allied infrastructure like battery energy storage systems,desalination plants and various regulatory relaxations. With this Policy, Gujarat now attracts hyperscale/ large, capital-intensive data center projects while competing with other data center hubs.
