I hula-hooped for five hours.
You probably did not expect to read that on LinkedIn.
I was well prepared for it expecting it to be really hard work. And it was.
But the hula-hooping was the easiest bit.
The real hard work was arranging the event, marketing it at little or no cost, getting people motivated to join me on a cold December day and moving people to donate generously.
Why do I do it? I love hooping. And because I was lucky.
I wasn't born to parents who were illiterate, migrant labour living in a slum never knowing if there would be enough money to feed the family.
I didn't have to tag along with my mother as she went to work, or have to look after my younger siblings even though I myself was still a child.
I didn't have to watch other children in their clean, ironed uniforms go to school whilst I helped with the family income picking through the rubbish tip looking for things that still had some value.
Did you know one in eight children in India lives in a slum?
There is a way out for them. It is through education. One that is tailored to their needs.
The one truly meaningful way to show gratitude for a good life is to do what one can to better someone else's life.
Your donation will go a really long way.
