  • Indoor Based Exercise Recognition and Comfort Analysis

Machine Learning and Applications (ICMLA), 2017 16th IEEE International Conference

This work provides automatic indoor exercise recognition for both in gym and home usage scenarios. Activities under consideration are Biceps curl, Chest fly, Row, Push up, Sit up, Squat and Triceps curl. Accuracy of 95.3% and 99.4% is achieved for activity recognition and repetition count respectively. Along with activity recognition this work targets at analyzing comfort and measuring calorie burnt during the exercise. We introduce Comfort factor, which is the state of physical ease during…

Accuracy of 95.3% and 99.4% is achieved for activity recognition and repetition count respectively. Along with activity recognition this work targets at analyzing comfort and measuring calorie burnt during the exercise. We introduce Comfort factor, which is the state of physical ease during workout. Comfort factor is predicted using the relation devised between Resting Heart Rate (RHR), Maximum Heart Rate (MHR), Real-time heart rate value and hand tremor at exercise exhaustion limit of the user. With this comfort factor, user can decide whether to go for more weights or reduce weights in weight training activities.

  • A musical guidance system for ergogenic benefits in workouts

IEEE Future Technologies Conference (FTC) 2017

Music has become an essential component during indoor and outdoor workouts. Studies show that a budding runner can find a significant increase in motivation simply by listening to music. In this paper, we propose a system to further enhance the ergogenic benefits of music by providing real-time musical guidance derived from variations in user's physiological factors. This system helps user to increase the time spent in desired heart rate zone, thus, benefiting to reach user goal faster

  • An intelligent session transition system towards low power walking step estimation

IEEE Future Technologies Conference (FTC) 2017

Activity tracking has gained prominence with the phenomenal growth of fitness devices and ever increasing fitness awareness and step count has emerged as the primary fitness parameter. Step count is typically derived from continuous motion signal analysis. Either a dedicated hardware processing unit or a software signal processing unit, continuously counting repetition in motion signal is the common implementation choice. While dedicated hardware increases the BOM (Bill of Material), the…

Step count is typically derived from continuous motion signal analysis. Either a dedicated hardware processing unit or a software signal processing unit, continuously counting repetition in motion signal is the common implementation choice. While dedicated hardware increases the BOM (Bill of Material), the software pedometer incurs high power consumption. In this paper, we proposed a power efficient step estimation algorithm without continuous high power requirement even in motion at an acceptable accuracy using smartphone’s tri-axial accelerometer data.
