I’m a business leader, early-stage investor, and board director with nearly four decades of experience across the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. My work has focused on a central question: how can we make markets and leadership work better for people - especially those often left out?
As CEO of CRISIL, I led its transformation from a domestic ratings agency into a global analytics powerhouse, tripling revenues and growing market capitalization four-fold. Later, as Managing Partner, I led Omidyar Network India, backing early-stage entrepreneurs building inclusive solutions for India’s “Next Half Billion.”
My experience also includes serving as an independent director on the boards of Infosys, Nestlé India, Tata AIA Life Insurance, and IIM Ahmedabad, where I am also a Distinguished Alumna.
I’ve contributed to public policy through:
- Reserve Bank of India (RBI): Committees on payment banks and financial services inclusion
- Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI): Primary Market, Corporate Bonds, and Social Stock Exchange committees
- Postal Life Insurance (Government of India): Investment Board member

I keep returning to this question when we talk about innovation in the social sector. How do we fund change that is built to last? This question, also posed by Rekha Koita, shaped the conversation at the India Fundraising Conference 2026, where I joined the session “Bridging the Gap: Patient Capital for AI & Digital Innovation” with Shaveta Sharma-Kukreja from Central Square Foundation and Suhel Bidani from the Gates Foundation. I shared reflections from our journey at Educate Girls and what it takes to thoughtfully use digital and AI-led tools across our work. In my experience, these decisions are rarely about technology alone. They are shaped by intent, timing, and mostly whether the systems we build are solving a real problem. That is where patient capital becomes critical. It trusts the process, not just the outcome. It understands that strong systems take time and that real impact rarely fits into short funding cycles. It’s required to design, build and implement including change management within the organisation For those thinking about where and how to give, this mindset matters. The question I keep getting, privately, from CSR heads, foundation directors, and family office trustees: "𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘥𝘰 𝘸𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘨𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦?" It is the right question! Most organisations only think to ask it after something has already gone wrong. 𝗦𝗼 𝗜 𝗽𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀. 💡 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁. 10 questions every capital deployer should be able to answer before the first rupee moves. A preview of what is inside: → Did measurement happen before the programme, or after? → Was your implementation partner chosen by evidence or by relationship? → If this programme ended tomorrow, what would you show your board? And 7 more, each designed to surface a failure mode I have seen in the field. It does not matter whether you deploy through CSR, a foundation, a family office, or an institutional grant. The governance gaps are the same. The checklist works for all four. I’m happy to share the checklist with practitioners, trustees, CSR teams, and others actively involved in deploying social capital.
