Led a team of engineers to Kansas City, Nicaragua to assist in the design and construction of a 90-foot pedestrian bridge. The several mile-long village is separated by a deep-bed creek that is difficult to cross in any condition and near impossible during the rainy season. This limits the children and people on the east side of the creek from getting to school and church when the creek is impassable. Efforts included coordination of the trip between Rivers of the World and ASCE Georgia, coordination of the team, fundraising, and awareness. As co-chair, under the leadership of Scott Sutek, for the ASCE golf tournament fundraiser, we raised over $13,000 in profit to help cover materials for the bridge and travel. While in Nicaragua, our team was also able to help distribute school supplies, gather data on drainage issues, and assess the condition of a contaminated well.

Wet Weather Design and Operation in Water Resource Recovery Facilities provides professionals involved in the field with a comprehensive reference of current design and operational practices for dealing with the unique challenges associated with the proper management of wet weather flows. Intended as a companion to Design of Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants, 5th Edition, MOP 8, Wet Weather Design and Operation in Water Resource Recovery Facilities focuses on providing a wet weather flow management perspective to the subject matter previously covered by the widely relied upon design practitioner resource. Going beyond MOP 8 by including operational-oriented considerations related to wet weather events, the text is comprised of 16 chapters, grouped around planning and configuration for wet weather events in water resource recovery facilities and facility processes. I contributed as a coauthor of Chapter 15: Disinfection.
