Lukas M. Ziegler shared thisRobots are coming for one of agriculture's most delicate jobs. Picking berries! 🍓 This is Fieldwork Robotics' Fieldworker 1 platform, designed to autonomously harvest raspberries at speeds comparable to human workers. That might sound simple, but berry picking is one of the hardest challenges in agricultural robotics. The robot needs to identify ripe fruit, avoid damaging fragile berries, and operate efficiently in a constantly changing environment. Fieldworker 1 uses custom AI systems and spectral analysis to assess ripeness and is designed so that a single operator can supervise multiple robots in the field. Agriculture continues to face labor shortages across many regions, while growers are under pressure to improve productivity and reduce waste. That's creating a strong demand for automation solutions that can work alongside existing operations. Fieldwork is already running trials with Costa Group, one of Australia's largest fruit growers, and joins a growing group of companies proving that robotic harvesting is moving from research projects into commercial deployments. Lukas M. Ziegler shared thisHumanoid vision on steroids! 📷 RealSense recently released the D585 Pro, a completely new generation depth camera designed for humanoids and AMRs. Alon called it "the old camera but on steroids." New system-on-chip with onboard AI capabilities. You can run AI features directly on the camera without offloading to the robot's main compute. Depth performance jumped. 10-meter range with minimal detection noise. 12cm depth quality improved 2x compared to the previous generation. Now dual RGB, can stream two alternating RGB feeds simultaneously alongside depth. Perfect for teleoperation or VLA models that need high-quality visual input. 120-degree horizontal, 100-degree vertical field of view. Wide enough that you can see yourself in the edges of the frame. For humanoids, this is critical. A robot can see everything, dynamic obstacles, static obstacles, people in crowds, objects at the edges. This matters for safe operation. Humanoid deployment is scaling. But safety depends on perception. A robot that only sees what's directly in front loses situational awareness. Instead of sending responders onto active roadways to place cones by hand, these robots deploy directly from the emergency vehicle. Once released, they drive themselves into position, forming an instant safety perimeter around the scene. They can be activated remotely or operate autonomously, reducing the time it takes to secure the site. Ziegler shared thisSLAM dunk your robotics knowledge! ⛹🏼♂️ Robots are getting smarter and more capable, hence SLAM is often considered one of the "holy grail" of robotics, enabling machines to map unknown environments while tracking their own position within them. Recently, even OpenAI is hiring SLAM engineers, so here's the free MIT guide to learn it! For an accessible, hands-on entry point, "SLAM for Dummies" is a must-read. Authors Søren Gram Riisgaard and Morten Rufus Blas developed this guide at MIT, creating a resource that bridges the gap between theory and practice. De-mystifying complexity by breaking down the logic of autonomous navigation into understandable steps, skipping unnecessary jargon. Code included with plenty of concrete examples, perfect for moving from theory to implementation. Proven foundation born out of the MIT academic environment, yet written specifically for practitioners and beginners. SLAM solves a fundamental problem: How does a robot navigate when it doesn't know where it is and doesn't have a map? Traditional navigation assumes you either have a map or know your position. SLAM builds the map and estimates position simultaneously, handling the circular dependency between the two. Applications span autonomous vehicles (building maps while driving), warehouse robots (navigating dynamic environments), drones (flying in GPS-denied spaces), and household robots (learning home layouts). Lukas M. Ziegler shared thisVine-like growing robot! 🍇 A growing robot that can get into hard-to-reach places. Researchers at Stanford University built a soft “snake” robot designed for search and rescue missions. Instead of crawling or rolling, it grows outward like a vine, squeezing through rubble to reach trapped people. The robot starts as an inside-out tube. When inflated, new material extends from the tip while the rest of the body stays still. That means it can push through tight gaps, turn corners, and keep moving even if parts of its body get stuck or punctured. In tests, it navigated nails, glue, flypaper, narrow gaps, and even climbed icy surfaces. Because only the tip moves, damage along the body doesn’t stop progress. It’s a very different approach to mobility, and a good reminder that not all robots need legs, wheels, or joints to be effective. It seems that it's quite a place to find a physical AI startup while walking around. Let's break down why it's a great place to start a robotics company. New York City is a powerful place to launch robotics startups because it combines top AI talent, massive funding, and real-world demand in one city. NYC has strong universities like Columbia University and New York University, producing engineers in AI, robotics, and data science. At the same time, the city is closely connected to leading AI companies like OpenAI, giving startups access to cutting-edge developments in machine intelligence. The biggest advantage of NYC is proximity to customers. Industries like finance, healthcare, logistics, retail, and media are all concentrated here, so robotics startups can quickly find real-world use cases and pilot customers. NYC also offers one of the world’s deepest funding ecosystems, with top VCs, hedge funds, and corporate investors all in one place, making it easier to raise capital for both software and hardware-heavy companies. Huge credits to New York Robotics for creating an ecosystem around that area. In the comments I'll post the companies from the ecosystem. Humanoid has raised $152M in Series A funding at a $1.35 billion valuation. Total funding now stands at $270 million. Founded just in 2024. Still feels for me like it was yesterday! :) The round was led by Prime Movers Lab with participation from Schaeffler, Bosch, Fubon Financial and Aglaé Ventures. Notice who keeps showing up in this cap table. Schaeffler. Bosch. Two of Germany's most powerful industrial giants backing the same British startup round after round. 🇬🇧 Here's what the money funds according to Reuters (link below): → Next-generation platform development → Expansion of KinetIQ, their proprietary AI software platform → Commercial deployments with industrial customers → Start of MASS MANUFACTURING of wheeled robots Also the deployment timeline is concrete. Beta robots at customer sites in Q4 2026, across manufacturing, logistics and retail. The partner ecosystem now reads: SAP, NVIDIA, Bosch, Siemens and Schaeffler. For a two-year-old startup that is a staggering list. Step back and look at what Humanoid has built in 24 months: 🚀 $270M raised 🚀 $1.35bn valuation 🚀 Bosch as contract manufacturer 🚀 Schaeffler deploying thousands of robots 🚀 Siemens and SAP as software partners 🚀 Mass manufacturing starting now I was thinking of using arrow emojis, but I think 🚀 highlights much more accurate what they have achieved :) A two-year-old British startup is about to start mass producing humanoid robots. Ziegler shared thisUsing simulation to capture acoustic DNA! 🎵 Siemens demonstrated "Sound of Science" at Transform UK, a project using simulation technology to capture the acoustic properties of famous venues like St. Peter's Basilica, concert halls in Bavaria, and the Salzburg Festival. Music is sensorial. You need to feel it. Traditional simulation lives in factories and engineering. By applying it to acoustics, Siemens shows what simulation can do in creative domains. Capture the DNA of a historic basilica and put it in an app. That's powerful because it makes simulation tangible and beautiful instead of abstract. For conductors, acoustics matter enormously. You plan a concert knowing how sound will travel in that space. Positioning the orchestra requires understanding reflections, resonance, and dead zones. Simulating acoustics in advance means better execution on concert day. The parallel Cedric drew: conducting an orchestra and orchestrating a factory. Both need precision timing. Both need coordination across many elements. Both have rhythm. "Technological orchestra" is the metaphor, factories need to be conducted the way orchestras are conducted. Jacomo Corbo, Co-Founder & CEO at PhysicsX, on the gap between positive rhetoric and real commercial adoption: "The rhetoric is very positive, both from industry as well as from policy circles and government. Whether that's translating into greater momentum commercially, that is now limited. We're seeing a little bit of an uptick, but still not seeing the rate of adoption and ultimately of spend that we see in the U.S. or two in Asia."
