🔄 BP pivots back to oil – offloads U.S. onshore wind assets BP has just announced the sale of its U.S. onshore wind business to LS Power’s Clearlight Energy, marking a clear shift in its strategic focus. The deal includes 10 operational wind farms across 7 states, totaling 1.3 GW net capacity, and is expected to close by end-2025. This move is part of BP’s broader $20 billion divestment program, under which the company is streamlining its portfolio and reinforcing its focus on core oil & gas activities. Under CEO Murray Auchincloss—and amid pressure from activist investors—BP is scaling back its renewable investments by over $5 billion per year. 📈 The market responded positively, with BP’s share price rising nearly 2% following the announcement. 🛢️ A new chair, Albert Manifold, will oversee this strategic shift, as BP recalibrates toward returns-driven fossil fuel investments. 🌱 While the company retains some renewable interests (e.g., solar through Lightsource bp), it has signaled that it is "no longer the best owner" of these wind assets.
