How can a cultural symbol become a masterplan? Inspired by the traditional Vietnamese kite, our proposal for the University of Economics & Business (UEB) in Hòa Lạc transforms a cultural symbol into a framework for planning. The Knowledge Spine, Learning Clusters and Infinity Loop are not separate design gestures. Together, they organise movement, learning and community while creating a campus that is adaptable, walkable and designed for long-term growth. Rather than beginning with individual buildings, the proposal begins with relationships, between people, landscape and knowledge, creating a masterplan that can evolve over time while maintaining a clear identity. Urban context should shape architecture. not the other way around. Too often, buildings are designed as standalone objects and only later fitted into their surroundings. PIXEL DHCC took the opposite approach. Located beside Dubai Healthcare City Metro Station and positioned between two major road junctions, the site is defined by movement, visibility and constant pedestrian activity. Rather than treating these conditions as constraints, they became the starting point for the design. The building's pixelated massing breaks down the overall volume into a series of smaller, interlocking elements that respond to pedestrian movement, daylight and surrounding views. This creates a more human-scaled workplace while strengthening the relationship between the building, the public realm and the wider community. At ground level, landscaped walkways, shaded seating areas and a public café encourage activity throughout the day and improve connectivity between the metro station and the healthcare district beyond. Rather than following the Mediterranean-inspired architectural language found elsewhere in Dubai Healthcare City, the design establishes a contemporary identity shaped by Dubai's climate, urban conditions and future ambitions. For us, urban context is more than the site boundary. Commissioned by the Hong Kong Housing Society, Casa Sierra is the Housing Society’s first Dedicated Rehousing Estate (DRE), adopting a “mixed development model” in the Northern Metropolis. It is also the first project to be accredited under the BEAM Plus Elderly-Friendly Building Certification Scheme. Developed in response to the Government's development clearance exercises, Casa Sierra provides a rehousing option for affected households. The three residential towers provide a total of 1,467 units, including rental units, subsidised sale flats, and Senior Citizen Residences Scheme units, set above a podium comprised of Retail, Residential Care Home for the Elderly, and Carpark facilities. Its thoughtfully designed façade adds a distinctive presence to the area, making it a visual landmark in Fanling. Casa Sierra emphasises social integration and sustainable living, utilizing smart property management solutions and elderly-friendly designs to enhance residents’ overall quality of life. YK Pao School Hong Kong will welcome its first cohort of students in the coming fall, and we are honoured to be the ones who create the learning space for these aspiring youth. The overarching design of the campus brings the school’s motto, “Learning with joy, Living with purpose”, and its core values of “Compassion”, “Balance” and “Integrity” to life. We envisioned a campus woven around a series of open courtyards and distinctive zones that each expressed an element. Our design finally rested on the belief that informal and spontaneous learning also happens in the residual spaces between and around the classrooms. The challenge was to find balance between preserving of pre-existing trees and structures, increasing student capacity and upgrading athletic and creative facilities at the same time. The resulting building solution forms a V-shaped composition, with a raised north wing, a sheltered central courtyard and beautiful tree lined southern playground. The old south wing remains as the principle setting for everyday learning, while the new north extension accommodates larger-span functions such as the hall and gymnasium. The courtyard becomes a landscape for gathering, pause and informal learning. The V-shaped arrangement also opens towards the preserved mature tree, Ficus microcarpa, placing nature as a quiet focus of the campus. Curiosity leads to interests, interests to passions, and passions to purpose. How can cultural heritage shape the university campus of tomorrow? As part of a design competition for the University of Economics & Business (UEB) in Hòa Lạc, our Vietnam team developed a masterplan inspired by one of Vietnam's oldest cultural symbols: the traditional kite. More than a source of inspiration, the kite became the organising principle for the campus. Its string, frame, body and movement informed a masterplan that connects learning, landscape and community into a single, coherent vision. Rather than looking to the past for nostalgia, the proposal reinterprets Vietnamese heritage through contemporary design, creating a flexible, walkable and future-ready campus designed to evolve alongside the university and its students. How do you design a business district for an industry that didn't exist 20 years ago? Designed by P&T Group, Dubai CommerCity was created as the Middle East's first free zone dedicated exclusively to the e-commerce sector. Rather than simply delivering office buildings, the masterplan brings together 12 Grade A office buildings, 84 logistics units and a vibrant social hub into a connected mixed-use destination. Together, they provide 207,000 sqm of development designed to support the entire e-commerce ecosystem, from business operations and logistics to collaboration and everyday workplace experience. The architecture reflects this ambition. Curved office buildings frame landscaped public spaces and pedestrian routes, creating a business environment that feels connected, walkable and designed around people as much as productivity.
