Of course, I couldn’t leave without exploring a bit of Shanghai’s city vibes too!

It was a privilege to meet Andrea Brzozowski, our global program lead, and to work with the outstanding leaders and HR experts participating in the program. I also had the chance to reconnect with Dalal Alame, an old friend and meet my best mentor and role model ever, Jean Ryan in person for the very first time. I also visited MoMA and saw Van Gogh's "Starry Night." What a stunning piece of art! This visit was truly a dream come true.

We launched with an Independent Academy train-the-trainer session yesterday. The sales teams told me AI roleplay is fun and challenging! They’re so competitive with each other, excited to show me their scores. (I knew they just wanted prizes from me 😄) Watching the energy translate from that room straight into real market conversations was special. We spent the day in the field with the sales team, distributor owners, customers & consumers — and it reminded me why I love this job @ 💙PepsiCo . 🚚 Visited one of Thailand's best distributors. The owner showed us his new warehouse and shared his team's story. ✍️Big lesson I learned today: the delivery team isn't just "delivery guys" — they're customer service. No on-time delivery + great hospitality = no good sales. And with KPIs this competitive, if you're not delivering, someone else will. Rest of the day: Work-with the AFH team, coaching & feedback on “Next level HUNT & 3V+E”. Watched Jim, Jo & Heng mentor their new trainee, Som — team culture at its best. Amazing to see how they applied their learning into reality and win customer hearts and sales. Their story deserves its own post! Yet it is one of the lowest in East Asia, despite looking like the perfect market for delivery. Compare that with South Korea (~20%), Hong Kong (~18%) and Taiwan (~10%). On paper, Japan should have been one of the easiest food delivery markets to win. Instead, food delivery never became a daily habit. Part of the answer lies in Japan's dining culture, where eating alone is the daily default have reduced many of the pain points that food delivery solves elsewhere. Moreover, since 7-Eleven arrived in 1974, more than 56,000 konbini have blanketed the country, evolving far beyond retail. They became utility counters, ATMs, parcel collection points, print shops, and, perhaps most importantly, an integral part of Japan's foodservice infrastructure. Japan had built an ecosystem that solved convenience long before delivery apps arrived. Hosted by our R&D Fellows, this year’s forum brought our global teams together with a powerful theme: Scientific Excellence Without Borders — a reflection of our shared commitment to knowledge sharing and advancing the breakthrough science that is fueling our portfolio transformation. From the engaging keynote and interactive workshop with Brian Uzzi to informative sessions and important conversations happening across our R&D centers, the energy throughout the week was a testament to what’s possible when we integrate a variety of expertise and perspectives. I loved seeing how deeply our science is connected to future opportunity, from the integration of insights and foresights to anticipate and understand future consumer needs to highlights from our progress in functional ingredients, including fiber and protein, whole grains, and prebiotic platforms. #Congratulations to all of our speakers, panelists, moderators, and organizers for bringing science to life in such an impactful way. In early July, I had the privilege of joining the STARS China Study Tour, travelling across the Greater Bay Area to engage with business leaders, technology pioneers, policymakers and fellow executives from around the world. From visits to Tencent, WeRide, Ehang, BYD, SusTech, and discussions with PwC on China’s technology landscape, one message became increasingly clear: The next chapter of globalisation is no longer about moving products. It is about moving talent, capital, technology and ideas across borders. As a Talent Leader, I naturally viewed every company visit through a talent lens. Some reflections that stayed with me: 🔹 AI is fundamentally reshaping work. The question is no longer whether AI will replace jobs, but how organisations redesign work, reskill people and develop leaders who can thrive alongside AI. 🔹 Talent has become a strategic investment. The most successful organisations we visited don’t simply hire talent—they continuously build ecosystems through universities, startups, research institutions and industry partnerships. 🔹 China’s technology journey is increasingly global. Many Chinese technology companies are no longer thinking domestically. They are actively expanding internationally, creating significant opportunities for regional partnerships, investment and talent mobility. For talent leaders, investors and business executives, this presents exciting questions: * How do we build cross-border leadership capabilities? * How do we develop talent that can operate across multiple cultures and markets? * How do we create ecosystems where innovation, investment and people grow together? Having long believed in the potential of regional connectivity—particularly between Singapore, Malaysia and the wider ASEAN ecosystem—this study tour further reinforced my conviction that the future belongs to organisations that think beyond national borders. Talent will be one of the defining competitive advantages in this new era. My sincere appreciation to STARS and Human Capital Leadership Institute (HCLI) for such a thoughtfully curated programme, and to all the companies, speakers and fellow delegates for the meaningful conversations and generous sharing throughout the journey. The greatest takeaway wasn’t just seeing China’s technology ecosystem—it was understanding how collaboration across and beyond Asia can create the next wave of growth. The future of the world will not be built by one country alone. For nearly 40 years, GSSI scientists, nutrition experts, and performance researchers have worked to better understand how the body responds to exercise, heat, hydration and recovery, and translate those insights into innovative products that can help people perform at their best. From studying sweat and fueling needs to individualized hydration strategies, GSSI continues to advance the science that informs education and product development. This story highlights an important reality: many people may not fully recognize the role hydration plays in how they feel every day. GSSI helps bridge that gap by turning rigorous research into actionable insights that benefit people striving to perform at their best, whether competing in sports or navigating everyday life. While the platform was first introduced in the U.S., bringing it to China was never about simply replicating what already existed. It was about understanding local consumer preferences and translating a global innovation into a proposition that feels relevant, meaningful, and enjoyable for Chinese consumers. Through close collaboration across China, Global and International Beverages teams, we adapted the product experience to better fit local needs - combining a distinctive prebiotic proposition, naturally sweetened taste, low sugar, and the refreshing drinking experience consumers expect from Pepsi. What excites me most is how innovation can expand consumer choice. As consumer needs continue to evolve, there is growing interest in beverages that offer both enjoyment and functional benefits. This launch is another step in broadening the range of options available to consumers while staying true to the taste, refreshment, and enjoyment that are at the heart of the Pepsi brand. This journey would not have been possible without outstanding collaboration across geographies and functions.
