The BBC remains the UK’s leading brand for media in 2025/26 - and here’s why ⤵️ Our Annual Report for 2025/26 shows we're reaching 94% of adults on average per month. The report highlights the BBC’s continued role serving audiences across the UK and around the world, despite ongoing pressures on licence fee income, rising production costs and a rapidly changing media market. Audiences spend more time with BBC TV and iPlayer than with all the big SVODs combined; over 30 million on average per week tune in to BBC Radio; the BBC is the only UK brand in the top 5 most used by young people; and the BBC ranks as the UK’s media provider most trusted for fact-checked, accurate reporting and content. The report also outlines the challenges the organisation is facing. The BBC will not be able to sustain its public service mission in the future, without reform of its funding model. While 94% of adults use BBC services per month, fewer than 80% of households pay the licence fee. Learn more - and read the Annual Report in full - at the link in the comments.

The BBC has grown its global audience to reach over half a billion people every week for the first time since contemporary records began 🎉 Across BBC News, the BBC World Service and content distributed by BBC Studios, the BBC saw its international audience grow to 502 million people – up 11% year-on-year. BBC News increased its audience reach by nearly 50 million to 467 million (up 12% year-on-year). The BBC World Service delivered over 70% of the BBC’s international audience reach, attracting 355 million people weekly (up 14% year-on-year). This growth was driven largely by the division’s digital transformation which, combined with a run of significant news stories, delivered exceptional audience figures. As such, the BBC World Service has seen its digital audience increase by over 40% during the same period. The BBC remains the most trusted international news provider, globally, and ranks first for reliability and independence. “I’d like to thank BBC teams across the world for delivering outstanding journalism just when the world needs it most," says Jonathan Munro, Interim CEO, BBC News and Current Affairs. "We have seen growth from all corners of the globe as people come to our journalism in record-breaking numbers for the breadth and depth of BBC reporting. We have consistently delivered distinctive and impartial coverage and, importantly, retained our position as the most trusted news provider in the UK and around the world.” Learn more at the link in the comments.

The BBC is key to the UK’s growth story, contributing £6.7 billion to the UK economy in 2024/25 and supporting around 79,000 jobs, with two-thirds of this impact flowing to the creative industries.    A new economic impact report shows our impact extends well beyond these direct effects, helping to create the conditions for long-term growth by nurturing innovation, talent development, regional investment and the UK’s global reputation for creative excellence.   As media markets become increasingly global and consumption becomes more fragmented, the UK will need, more than ever, institutions that drive our international competitive advantage and secure investment for the long term. The BBC wants to continue to play its role as part of the UK’s national creative infrastructure by reimagining public service media through new models of production, distribution and audience engagement.    But realising that potential requires boldness and a new Charter that addresses the barriers the BBC faces in supporting growth.   Read the full report on the BBC & Creative Industries Growth at the link in the comments.
