On 28 July, we’re launching the latest IAB UK Compass Report, exploring how DOOH has evolved, the trends driving its growth, and what brands, agencies and ad tech businesses need to know about the future of the channel. We’ll then explore one of the biggest challenges facing the industry: measurement. Global's Jane Lee. Looking at what accountability actually means for DOOH, from the Outcomes project to the wider push for audience-level attribution. Finally, our panel brings together voices from across the ecosystem, Zoom's Megan Bogatzki, Perion's Lee Cutter, VIOOH Emily Bearn and IAB UK's Patrick Hann, to unpack what these developments mean for advertisers, agencies and ad tech. 📍 IAB UK HQ, The Kodak, WC2B 4BA 🗓 Tuesday 28 July, 09:15-11:30 Free for IAB members, agencies and advertisers Full agenda can be found using the link in the comments

Most people in digital advertising are using AI by now. But how far it can stretch across the campaign lifecycle is something many of us are still learning. That was the thinking behind AdLabs, our new hands-on training format, which made its sold out debut at IAB UK this week. Instead of a day of presentations, attendees worked through live exercises on their own laptops: generating and scaling ad creative, turning messy briefs into structured plans, testing ideas against simulated audiences, optimising live campaigns and even building an AI agent to buy and sell media. Thank you to the experts who led the sessions: Innovid's James Hollobone & Hardeep Rayatt, Cape.io's Lawrence Spencer, Microsoft's Gary Stow & Tracey Pilon, NewtonX's Sam Howlett, Blis' James Munro, Meta's Sruti Agarwal, The Trade Desk's Elliot Isaacson, Arwen's Matthew McGrory and Teads' Amy China Wire. Here's a look at how the day played out. Keep an eye out for where AdLabs goes next.

Video has quickly become the default for podcasts. But is that always the right call? For our latest article in The Drum, we brought together senior leaders from across the audio and video ecosystem to unpack where video improves podcasts, where audio remains the better format, and how brands should measure success beyond views. A few things we covered: → Video drives discovery but audio is for full episodes. YouTube is now the UK's second most-used podcast platform, but most of the listening still happens in audio-first moments, commuting, exercising, household tasks. → Video adds personality, but not for every host. A visible smirk or sideways glance can make some hosts seem more human. Equally, cameras can get in the way of honesty, and audio often preserves the intimacy that makes podcasts so compelling. Thanks to Covatic's Tom McKay, AdsWizz's Ollie Chadwick, Goodstuff's Sam Austin and Global's Joe Copeman for their perspectives. Creators are no longer just a marketing channel, they're becoming part of the media ecosystem itself. From entertainment and publishing to commerce and advertising, the role of creators is evolving rapidly. As conversations at Cannes Lions made clear, this is no longer a discussion for influencer marketing teams alone. It's a conversation for every media business. In her latest article, our TV+ & Creators Lead, Connie Hawker, explores why the lines between creators and media owners are increasingly blurred, why raising standards across the creator economy has never been more important, and what this means for brands, agencies, publishers and platforms. She also shares how our Creator Qualification Programme is helping creators build the knowledge and confidence needed for successful, responsible commercial partnerships and why these conversations will continue at the IAB Creator Growth Summit (secure your place, link in the comments). Creator marketing is growing fast, but the UK still lacks a robust, independent figure for the size of the market. We’re changing that. IAB UK is working with independent research agency IRM to build an official measure of the UK creator marketing sector, including how much advertiser spend is going into the channel. Reliable market-sizing data helps fast-evolving advertising sectors build confidence, attract investment and demonstrate their value to both industry and government. It also gives businesses a clearer view of how the market is moving, which supports better benchmarking and forecasting. This figure is only as strong as the input behind it, so we want to hear from both sides of the market: companies working creator marketing, and creators themselves. Take the survey. The link is in the comments. As a thank you, all entrants will have the chance to win a £100 gift voucher to Circolo Popolare. All responses will be handled independently by IRM and reported only in aggregate. #CreatorMarketing #InfluencerMarketing #DigitalAdvertising #CreatorEconomy #AdSpend #MarketResearch #IABUK

A heatwave pushed our Last Thursday Club to a first Thursday this month, as our own Patrick Hann notes below, probably a one-off. The conversation was worth the wait. Spark Foundry's Richard Friar, Blis's Matt Quy and Azerion's Stephanie Boulton (née Poon) joined Pat to ask what the next era of omnichannel planning is calling for. Two things stood out: → Holistic planning is starting to pay off. New technology, dynamic optimisation, attention metrics, cross-channel measurement, location intelligence, is making more intelligent planning across channels possible, and the brands treating their channels as one plan are seeing the results. → Planning matters more. As AI takes on more of the mechanics, the human perspective on what a machine might miss becomes the most valuable part of the plan. The panel was recorded for the IAB UK podcast, so keep an ear out for the episode.
A big thank you to everyone who joined the IAB UK's first- and probably last- first Thursday of the month, Last Thursday club (probably not my best opening panel line)... And a special thanks to Blis' Matt Quy, Azerion's Stephanie Boulton (née Poon) and Spark Foundry's Richard Friar for bringing all of your expertise on Omnichannel and the future of holistic planning. If you look very closely at the second picture, you can see my desperate attempts to think of a weather/football related quip to end the session...

A huge thank you to everyone who joined our host James Chandler behind the mic, and to everyone who tuned in along the way. With England playing this evening and the knockout drama already underway, World Cup predictions are getting risky fast. In the latest IAB UK Podcast clip, James Chandler asks Footballco's Andy Baker, YouTube's Jonathan Tesfamariam and PubMatic's Emma Newman share their picks to win it all: Portugal, Japan and Portugal. England was, of course, left out of the discussion. One is already out, one is still in the race, and one is yet to play. That’s exactly why this episode explores how quickly attention can shift during major sporting moments and how brands can stay relevant as the conversation moves. Last Thursday's Club didn't quite happen on...last Thursday. ☀️ With the UK heatwave making the final Thursday of June a little too hot to gather comfortably, we decided to move it to this Thursday instead. We think good conversations are worth waiting for. As customer expectations continue to evolve, planning across channels is becoming more complex and more critical. We'll be exploring how businesses can connect strategy, inventory, demand, merchandising, and customer experience to create truly seamless omnichannel operations.
