On 4 June Lord John Mann published his review into tackling racism and antisemitism within the NHS with recommendations to support making services safe for all patients, communities and colleagues. On the same day NHS England wrote to all NHS Trusts with a set of actions we must take in response. You can read our full response to that on our website - link in the comments.
Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust
Mental Health Care
Improving health, improving lives.
About us
Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust provides specialist mental health and learning disability services to people in Leeds, York and across the Yorkshire and Humber region. Service users are at the heart of our organisation, and we continually strive to offer the best possible care and support. By working closely with partners, we deliver modern, effective and accessible services that respond to the needs of our communities. We recruit people based on their values and qualifications (where required), and we recognise that lived experience is a strength. We seek out potential, not perfection, and this means our workforce is as diverse as the communities we care for. Simply put, when we employ caring people who act with integrity and have the right skills, we enable those with mental health challenges, learning disabilities and neurodiversity to live fulfilling lives. At the same time, we create a workplace where colleagues feel purposeful, happy and valued.

Our Staff Bank colleagues play a vital role in supporting services across Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. 💙 With around 500 professionals choosing to work through our Staff Bank, their contribution helps us provide high-quality care. We're proud that feedback from our bank workforce continues to highlight positive experiences around engagement, support and wellbeing. Today we're recognising that contribution by celebrating colleagues like Juliet, pictured receiving an award at last year's Bank Colleague Impact Awards. Thank you to all of our bank colleagues for the expertise, dedication and flexibility you bring to our organisation every day. #StaffBank #FlexibleWorking #NHS #EmployeeExperience #HealthcareWorkforce #TeamLYPFTProvide your feedback on BizChat

Transforming Recovery Through Meaningful Occupation A dedicated Occupational Therapy (OT) team within Community Rehabilitation Services is making a significant impact on the lives of people experiencing complex mental health challenges, supporting individuals to reconnect with purpose, identity, and their communities. Grounded in the principle that meaningful activity is essential to wellbeing, our occupational therapists work in partnership with service users to understand what truly matters to them—whether that’s daily routines, relationships, or longer-term aspirations. This person-centred approach enables individuals to re-engage in meaningful activities, rebuild confidence, and rediscover a sense of self. Within complex psychosis services, this work has been particularly impactful. Many individuals who have experienced disconnection from roles, interests, and community life are supported to identify strengths, regain independence, and move forward in their recovery journey. Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams (MDTs), occupational therapists contribute a unique and vital perspective—ensuring each person’s goals, lived experience, and potential remain central to care planning. The outcomes of this work are both meaningful and measurable. Using tools such as the Model of Human Occupation Screening Tool (MOHOST), the team has demonstrated improvements in participation and functioning. A year-long evaluation within the CREST service further highlighted the effectiveness of this approach, leading to recognition through publication in OT News. This work was also proudly showcased at the Leeds City Wide Occupational Therapy Conference (November 2025), contributing to wider professional conversations on recovery-focused care. As we look ahead to Occupational Therapy Week this autumn, we are excited to continue celebrating the profession and building on this success—championing recovery, hope, and inclusion across our communities. #OccupationalTherapy #MentalHealthRecovery #CommunityRehabilitation

Comms teams are often criticised for not doing their own PR – shining a light on themselves for a change rather than the people they serve or represent. So, Oliver Tipper, Head of Communications at the Trust, has shared his team's annual report for 2025/6 in this guest blog. Some might say writing your own annual report sounds like a dull way of doing your own PR. Whilst that depends on how you write it, the journey can be as important as the destination!

Congratulations to our Team of the Month – the Apprenticeships and Employability Team. As a newly established team, they have already demonstrated the impact of strong collaboration, commitment and a shared vision for supporting colleagues. A key highlight of their work was the successful delivery of the 2025/26 Apprenticeship Celebration and Awards Event in March, which brought together over 90 attendees to recognise apprentices and the vital support networks around them. The team’s thoughtful approach, listening to feedback, fostering relationships and ensuring inclusivity, resulted in a meaningful and impactful event that continues to grow year on year. Beyond this, their ongoing work supporting apprentices at every stage of their journey plays a vital role in developing skills, confidence and a culture of learning across the Trust. This is a well-deserved recognition of a team making a real difference. 🔗 We’ll be sharing more about the Apprenticeship Celebration and Awards Event in the comments.

To mark Clean Air Day 2026 we’ve signed up to the Vision Zero Pledge to eliminate deaths and serious injuries on roads in Leeds by 2040. We’re all road users – and our community staff clock up thousands of work miles each year visiting patients in or near their own homes. Alongside Vision Zero, we’re sharing a new active travel map to encourage more sustainable travel across the city. On the map you’ll find where you can hire a bike, get maintenance from qualified mechanics, borrow tools or just get some cycling tips. You can find a link to the active travel map in the comments. Today we brought together colleagues from across our Estates and Facilities services for Estates and Facilities Day focused on recognition, reflection and connection. It was a pleasure to be joined by Estates and Facilities colleagues from Leeds Community Healthcare, alongside our Mitie partners, reinforcing the importance of collaboration in delivering high-quality environments that support patient care. Thank you also for the generous gifts shared with staff, a thoughtful contribution that was warmly received. The event provided an opportunity to recognise the outstanding contributions of colleagues through a series of peer-nominated awards, celebrating the professionalism, integrity and teamwork within our services. Thank you to everyone involved in making the day such a success, and congratulations to all award winners.

Taking it to the bank . . . the positive feedback we received from our Bank Staff in the last staff survey has been recognised at national level – making our Trust one of the best in the country. We have a roster of around 500 people who are available for flexible shift work - known as the Staff Bank. In a report published earlier this year, the Trust’s bank workers reported improved results across all seven elements of the NHS People Promise, as well as improved results for staff engagement and morale. These results are potentially unprecedented across the NHS making LYPFT one of the best employers for bank workers. Whilst this was the third year that the NHS has run a national staff survey for Bank only workers, LYPFT has been running their own since 2019 putting the Trust well ahead of the curve. Read the full story on our website. Link in the comments. Pictured is Juliet Ebu, one of our regular bank workers, receiving an award at last year's Bank Colleague Impact Awards.
