Yesterday was a very special full-circle moment. I returned to the LSE School of Public Policy for this year’s graduation ceremony as the alumni speaker, three years after graduating. I am grateful to have had the chance to share a few reflections with the Class of 2026 about the pressure many feel to have everything figured out after graduation, and how careers often become clearer through unexpected opportunities, changing plans, and leaving room for surprise. Thank you again to the LSE School of Public Policy and LSE Alumni for the invitation, and congratulations to all the graduates!

Ten years ago, I graduated from the LSE. Yesterday, I returned to address the Class of 2026. It was one of the greatest honours of my life. Standing on that stage was surreal, deeply humbling and a powerful reminder of just how much of my life has been shaped by the #LSE. There was something incredibly special about experiencing the university through the eyes of a new graduating class. The excitement and sense of possibility in the room were infectious. Honestly, by the end of it, part of me wanted to be a student all over again. It was also a powerful reminder that, at a time of extraordinary change, our universities are more pivotal than ever - not only for the knowledge they provide, but for the curiosity, confidence and communities they help create. I am incredibly grateful to be part of the #LSEalumni community, and especially thankful to Neil Lee, the faculty, and everyone who made the day possible. To the #Classof2026, congratulations! It was an absolute privilege to celebrate this moment with you. It is one I will never forget. "One of the greatest gifts of an LSE education is not having all the answers....it's knowing how to find them" It was such an honour to be asked back to The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) to give the Alumni address at the LSE Department of Media and Communications Graduation Ceremony. Returning to the department where it all began was incredibly special because this is where my love for all things Media and Comms began. Since graduating, I've been fortunate to build a 20 years+ career witnessing first-hand how the industry has rapidly evolved through technological change, the rise of digital platforms and now AI. Looking back, many of the ideas, trends and challenges we discussed in those lectures have moved from theory into reality and it has been incredible to live through the transformation. I also found myself reflecting on the memories of the late Professor Roger Silverstone, one of the co-founders of the Media and Communications programme and a hugely influential figure in shaping the course, the faculty, academics, myself and the generations of students who followed. It was a privilege to bring his memory back into the room and honour him.
