Emmeline Pankhurst remains one of the most influential figures in the fight for women's voting rights, with the suffrage movement she led being instrumental in pushing women's suffrage to the forefront of British politics; however, we’d like to also recognise that the movement did not represent ALL women equally. While the UK suffrage movement did not explicitly ban Black women (like some US movements), they were focused on securing voting rights for white, middle-and upper-class women. We remember her for everything she did, while ensuring the future of women's rights is inclusive.

About us
The Female Lead is a UK-based women's empowerment charity with over 9 million followers, created by loyalty and data entrepreneur Edwina Dunn OBE. WHO ARE WE? The Female Lead is built on three pillars: Educate. Advocate. Activate. We have a community of over 9 million women globally and empower them with data-driven research to challenge systemic barriers, educate the next generation before limiting beliefs take hold, and drive advocacy to drive real world change. We start in the classroom by promoting self-development and role models to girls in schools. We evolve our mission to the boardroom by working with businesses to prove women are an investment, not just a tick box. And throughout their lives and careers, we give women an online community that amplifies their voices and is an unbiased champion for conversations that matter to them at every age and every stage. We are a charity that uses all income to fund our work. A new 23-page document has been released encouraging broadcasters to rethink the way women are filmed during competitions after years of athletes speaking out about coverage that leaves them feeling exposed, objectified and distracted. The guidance asks camera crews to avoid lingering close-ups on specific body parts, low-angle shots from behind or below, and unnecessary slow-motion replays that don't add anything to viewers' understanding of the sport. Too often, coverage has treated women athletes as bodies first and competitors second. The movement is about making sure the focus is where it should be - on their talent, dedication and achievements.

Society is OBSESSED with women aging, if it’s not selling us another product telling us how to remove wrinkles, it’s 20 year olds being cast as 30 year olds and the world demanding we ‘age gracefully’. Here are some women who are fighting that narrative. While we know it’s easier to feel body confident as you age when you’re rich and famous, these women also have the spotlight on them and thousands of people commenting on their appearance day to day so it’s refreshing to hear their honesty.

One of our favourite things at The Female Lead? Connecting young women with their role models. This time, 12-year-old Nelly got to interview not one, but TWO Moanas! 🌊 She sat down with Catherine Laga'aia and Auli'i Cravalho to chat about what Moana teaches young girls about courage, trusting yourself, and being the force that drives your own story. (Plus, she asked the important questions... like what they may or may not have stolen from set 👀) Watch the full interview on our YouTube channel, and catch Disney's live-action Moana in cinemas from 10th July.

Catcalling, wolf-whistling and making sexualised comments in parts of central London could now result in a £100 on-the-spot fine. The new powers mean the Metropolitan Police can now issue fixed penalty notices to people who breach Westminster's Public Space Protection Order (PSPO). The aim is to tackle street harassment and other anti-social behaviour before it escalates. Police say the fines are intended to be a "middle ground" for behaviour that causes distress but doesn't yet warrant arrest. The move sends a clear message that street harassment will not be tolerated.

For many people with endometriosis, getting a diagnosis can take more than nine years. However, two NEW non-invasive tests are set to be introduced on the NHS, which will help doctors identify the condition much sooner. One test uses a saliva sample, and the other measures electrical signals in the gut using sensors placed on the abdomen, with results available in around 45 minutes. NICE have said that this development could help cut diagnosis times from years to just weeks!

How much of what we call ‘normal’ is actually a sign we're running on empty? Somatic movement educator Nahid de Belgeonne wrote an article for our Substack on ‘Why burnout is so difficult to recognise in capable women’. If you're constantly holding everything together, it's easy to miss the patterns that quietly contribute to burnout. Which one resonates with you most? We’d love to hear your thoughts!

"Most people nearly faint when I tell them I have five job titles but one thriving career: investor, founder, board advisor, writer and public speaker. What they do not always realise is that none of this works by accident. I have spent years developing my personal infrastructure. Now I am sharing it with the world."
