Is Amazon really cannibalising your DTC sales? Most brands think so but the data usually says otherwise. We track customer behaviour across both Amazon and DTC over their full lifecycle. What we’re seeing consistently surprises brands: Customer overlap is almost always way lower than expected typically 5–7%, not the 15–25% many assume. Amazon-native brands see even less: around 1% overlap, almost 10x lower than DTC-native brands. And while acquiring customers on Amazon is usually cheaper, moving them to DTC afterwards is tough to influence without breaking ToS so when it happens, it’s largely organic. When we look only at overlapping customers, Amazon-native brands show a pretty even split between those who buy Amazon → DTC and those who go DTC → Amazon. The big takeaway? Amazon isn’t cannibalising your DTC nearly as much as you think. The data tells a very different story. If you want the full breakdown tailored to your brand, DM me and I’ll walk you through it.
