“If students are to navigate digital futures with confidence, teachers must be empowered to help shape those futures from the start” - International Task Force on Teachers for Education 2030. As AI becomes part of everyday education, digital literacy is about more than understanding tools. The Teacher Task Force highlights the importance of teacher agency, professional judgement and involvement in decisions about how technology is used in education. Their perspective reflects a central message of the Humans at the Heart of Education report: technology works best when it strengthens human capability. Future ready learning starts with the systems, people and pathways that help every learner keep moving forward. As the #CambridgeSchoolsConference continues in Cambridge, this year’s theme of preparing learners to thrive connects closely with our Humans at the Heart of Education campaign. It is about designing education around people: learners’ realities, teachers’ support and pathways that open up opportunity. The latest Cambridge Outlook magazine brings this to life through our work with Osvitoria and Alsama Project, from education resilience in Ukraine to recognised pathways for refugee and displaced young people. It also explores critical thinking in a digital age, an important part of future ready learning. We’re looking forward to more thoughtful conversations and shared learning as the conference continues. If you’re attending, let us know what you’re looking forward to exploring. Catch up with the latest Cambridge Outlook magazine below.
We're excited to welcome delegates to the #CambridgeSchoolsConference, in Cambridge, today. 🎉 Over the next two days, teachers and school leaders will explore this year's theme; ‘Future-ready: preparing learners to thrive' through keynote presentations, led by Professor Barbara Oakley, Professor Sam Wass, and Professor Rose Luckin CBE, panel discussions and breakout sessions. 🌟 Can't make it? Catch up with our latest Cambridge Outlook magazine, published today! 🗞️ From critical thinking in a digital world, and making space for climate conversations, to using AI to support good teaching, this latest edition explores themes from our 'Preparing learners to thrive in a changing world' research. In each country, I saw the same thing: educators and institutions that have built enduring education systems with Cambridge." - Rod Smith, Group Managing Director, International Education #ReadyForTheWorld

What skills do you think young people will need most in the future? Today is UNESCO World Youth Skills Day, and this year's theme is 'Skills for a shared future'. To mark the day, we asked Zubair Junjunia, Founder & CEO of ZNotes, what skills employers look for today. Zubair is a Fellow on the HP Cambridge Partnership for Education EdTech Fellowship. He was also named in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list for social impact. Here's his perspective: "In a world where AI is taking over many of the tasks we used to value, especially process-oriented ones, employers more than ever want to see collaboration, communication and real problem-solving. Young people who can take these emerging technologies not as replacements but as tools to create more innovative solutions will stand out. The skills that were often labelled as 'soft skills' are now the most important toolkit for the future workforce." This insight echoes our recent report, Humans at the heart of education, which explored how education can prepare the next generation for the future. Last week, Our Director of Commercial Strategy, Dr. Kenan Barut delivered the opening keynote at a summit in Türkiye run by TÜBİTAK (the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye). He joined academics, researchers and senior officials from around the world to discuss education's future. With the first day focused on artificial intelligence, he explored a critical question: How do we build future skills in an AI-driven world? To answer it, he shared insights and global case studies from our Human at the Heart of Education report. This shows how new technologies can support learning, assessment and curriculum development. But one message remained clear. Technology is only part of the solution. Lasting change depends on the expertise, empathy and judgement of educators. That message resonated strongly at a summit built on collaboration. The initiative brings together more than 42 science centres and workshops, alongside thousands of educators across 40+ cities. Thank you to TÜBİTAK and everyone involved for creating space for dialogue, innovation and partnership. Today, we are proud to launch an AI capacity-building workshop with African Union ECOSOCC in Nairobi. The workshop brings together civil society leaders from across Africa. Together, they will explore practical uses of AI. Alex Njiiri, Head of Education Reform, Sub-Saharan Africa, represented Cambridge University Press & Assessment. He opened the event by sharing how this initiative builds on Cambridge's experience across Africa and beyond. Next, Mutale Muloshi, Head of Administration, HR & Finance at AU-ECOSOCC, highlighted that civil society cannot afford to be a passive observer of AI's rapid growth. He encouraged participants to build practical skills while remaining mindful of ethics, trust and the communities they serve. Interest in the programme has been remarkable. More than 1,200 organisations applied for just 50 places. This highlights the growing demand for practical support on how AI can be used responsibly and effectively to strengthen impact across the civil society sector. This workshop is one of the first major activities delivered through our partnership with African Union ECOSOCC. Together, we are exploring how education, digital innovation and capacity development can create new opportunities across the continent. The programme also builds on Cambridge's wider work in AI and digital transformation. This includes AI training for educators and ministry leaders, and the HP Cambridge Partnership for Education EdTech Fellowship. Thank you to everyone joining us in Nairobi. We look forward to the conversations, ideas and partnerships that emerge over the next two days. Our Head of Partnerships, Dr Anna Kingsley, attended two events at London Climate Action Week, working with partners to explore how we can strengthen climate action through learning. At Advancing climate justice, community resilience and education, co-convened with Save the Children International, Faculty of Education at Cambridge and Cambridge Zero, the focus was on bringing the climate and education sectors together. The discussion highlighted how we can better support children to learn and thrive in a changing climate, while building more resilient and equitable systems. At Education Futures: Thriving Sustainably on Planet Earth, hosted by Cambridge University Press & Assessment and Cambridge Zero, the focus was the launch of Professor Prof Emily Shuckburgh CBE new book, published by Cambridge University Press & Assessment. The event brought together researchers, educators and partners to discuss the role of education in responding to the climate crisis and helping learners navigate an increasingly complex world. Reflecting on the week, Dr Anna Kingsley said: "It was encouraging to see education feature more prominently at London Climate Action Week, but it must be at the heart of climate action. Climate finance was high on the agenda, yet education remains underfunded despite being essential to building resilience and preparing societies for a changing climate." #LondonClimateActionWeek #ClimateEducation #ClimateJustice #EducationFutures

We worked with the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth in Georgia and IBF International Consulting SA to strengthen national assessment and improve learning outcomes for all students. Together, we designed and piloted new Grade 10 assessments across maths, social sciences (history, civic education and geography) and aesthetics (arts and music). We also supported teachers and school leaders, helping ensure more consistent, high-quality learning across the system. This work supported Georgia’s ambition to improve equity and raise standards, with practical approaches shaped by classroom experience and ready to scale. Thank you to our partners and colleagues who made this possible, including Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia and IBF International Consulting SA.
