Throwing it back to 1952 To mark its 50th anniversary, AAA was featured on a 3‑cent commemorative stamp issued in Chicago—highlighting its Safety and Accident Prevention Program with a school safety patrol member front and center. The design also showcased the evolution of travel, with 1902 and 1952 automobiles alongside the AAA logo. Fun fact: 3 cents covered a first-class letter at the time. Road tripping for July 4th? These are the best and worst times to drive over the long holiday weekend, according to INRIX. AAA projects 61.4 million people will travel by car, so prioritize safety, drive sober, and Slow Down, Move Over.

AAA projects 72.2 million Americans will travel domestically from Saturday, June 27 to Sunday, July 5. This Independence Day holiday travel forecast is slightly higher than last year, despite higher costs. The number of travelers driving and flying is relatively flat compared to 2025, while travel by other modes, including cruises, is the category seeing the biggest increase. “For many Americans, traveling the week of July 4th is tradition,” said Stacey Barber, Vice President of AAA Travel. “The 9-day travel forecast includes travelers who are vacationing all week and people just getting away for the long holiday weekend.
