  • How autonomy is developed matters. Agtonomy works directly with OEM partners like Kubota Tractor Corporation and Bobcat Company to integrate automation at the factory level — not as aftermarket kits, but as part of the equipment from the start. Factory-fit integration means greater reliability in the field, simpler deployment, and seamless operation as one complete system. Hardware, software, and controls work together from day one — designed for real-world conditions. For growers, that translates into equipment that is easier to adopt, backed by OEM dealer support, and built for consistent performance across everyday field operations like mowing, spraying, cultivation, and transport. Factory-fit automation is not just a different approach — it’s a more dependable way to bring autonomy into real operations.

  • Automation is helping growers do more in some of the most challenging environments and times. Ag demands precision, consistency, and the ability to adapt as conditions change. The Agtonomy-Enabled Kubota M5N at work in vineyard operations is one example of how automation is being put to work in the field.     Excited to share that I’ll be joining M. Brett McMickell for a fireside chat at AUTONOMOUS: The Future of Robotics & Physical AI this July in San Francisco. Brett and I will be talking about how two companies worked together to deliver a complex robot (a.k.a. “autonomous tractor”) in record time.   My career has always lived at the intersection of soil and silicon. I’ve built technology companies that were acquired by Apple, Microsoft, Dell, and Seagate, while running Trattore Farms and Winery in Northern California. Agtonomy is where those two paths converge: we’re embedding physical AI directly into the equipment that farmers already trust.   That’s why our work with Kubota Tractor Corporation matters so much. Instead of bolting on hardware after the fact, Agtonomy’s autonomy software is integrated at the factory level. Kubota tractors can roll off the line with real‑world autonomy baked in—ready for vineyards, orchards, and other high‑value permanent crops where conditions are tough and precision is non‑negotiable.   The thesis has never changed: The hardest deployment environment in the world isn’t a data center or a factory floor; it’s a field. Variable terrain, changing weather, thin margins, dirt, dust, heat, cold, and operators who don’t have time for technology that isn’t ready.   • Thank you to everyone who joined us for UC ANR Connect Field Day! Together with UC ANR Innovate, Farmhand Ventures, and California Agtech Alliance, the event brought together growers, researchers, startups, and industry partners from across California’s agricultural innovation ecosystem. We were proud to join seven other agtech companies—SAGA ROBOTICS // THORVALD, AgScout.ai, CropMind Inc (Techstars '25), Phytech, Lumo, Verdi, and Ag-Bee LLC—to demonstrate vineyard technologies in real-world conditions. During the field demos, we showcased two Agtonomy-Enabled units simultaneously: the Bobcat CT4045 in open-field mowing and the Kubota M5N in row mowing. The Kubota M5N was also equipped with the AgScout.ai cameras, capturing valuable vineyard insights in real time while getting work done in the field. It was a valuable opportunity to demonstrate the technology in action, answer questions, and engage directly with the people shaping the future of agriculture.   • Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting a group of students from St Peters Lutheran College in Brisbane, Australia at our headquarters in South San Francisco. We welcomed them for lunch, a company overview, and a live demo in our test lot featuring the Agtonomy-Enabled Kubota M5N and Bobcat CT4045—sharing how Physical AI is enabling real-world automation in agriculture. Opportunities like this are a great reminder of how important it is to give the next generation exposure to emerging technologies and the many paths available across our industry.
