We are proud to announce that Ascension Seton will soon be launching Central Texas’ first Mobile Stroke Unit, marking a transformative advancement in our emergency neurological care capabilities. Supported by a $1.25 million grant from the Texas Health and Human Services (HHS), this initiative brings specialized stroke expertise directly to the patient—essentially functioning as an "ER on wheels." Equipped with a portable CT scanner and a point-of-care laboratory, this unit will allow our medical teams to begin critical stroke interventions before the patient even reaches the hospital. As Meredith Wells, Vice President of Neurosciences & Spine Service Lines at Ascension Texas, noted: "At Ascension Seton, we know that every second matters during a stroke." As our community continues to grow, we are committed to expanding our reach and expertise to meet these evolving needs. This unit, currently in production and scheduled for deployment in 2027, ensures our patients have access to the most advanced and complex care possible, right where they need it. Dell Seton Medical Center recently became the first hospital in Texas to successfully implant a new neuromodulation device, offering a breakthrough drug-free treatment alternative for rheumatoid arthritis. Performed by Dr. Daniel Peterson, the minimally invasive procedure places a small implant on the vagus nerve. The device sends mild electrical pulses to reduce inflammation and restore immune balance.
