🚨 The White House just announced an additional 50% tariff on certain Canadian imports—this time under a new authority. The administration has invoked Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930, which allows the president to impose tariffs of up to 50% on imports from countries found to discriminate against US commerce. This is the first time Section 338 has been used to impose tariffs since the law was signed. The new tariffs are set to take effect in 30 days. At the launch of the 2026 Freedom and Prosperity Indexes, our Senior Fellow Nina Dannaoui-Johnson moderated a conversation with Senior Advisor Ignacio Campomanes examining what nearly 30 years of data reveal about the role of the rule of law in shaping long-term prosperity.
