After a stroke or other neurological injury, getting back behind the wheel can be challenging. But a driving simulator gives patients a safe way to rebuild those skills and potentially drive again. As part of our Adult Driver Evaluation and Rehabilitation Program, providers use the simulator to assess driving ability, reaction time and decision-making in a safe, controlled environment. They can identify areas for improvement before determining whether a patient is ready for an on-the-road assessment. The simulator is one step in the process of helping patients who’ve experienced physical, neurological or visual changes safely return to driving whenever possible.
