We teach people how to turn AI into ROI. And, on July 16, our students had the opportunity to prove just what that means to businesses and nonprofits from across Western New York. More than 50 executives came to the Rochester campus center for an interactive showcase of 13 unique AI solutions developed by our students. Each live demo showed a different way AI can be leveraged to achieve tangible business results.

What exactly does a lobbyist do? They educate, says Edward Hill. Hill is a partner at FTP, a full-service government and public affairs advocacy firm. He recently came to the Rochester campus center to pull back the curtains on federal lobbying, a vital industry worth more than $2.6B. A leading expert in financial policy, Hill showed how nonpartisan firms like FTP help to bridge the gap between two complex systems: the finance industry and federal regulation. Hill offered students insights gathered from a career at the intersection of public policy and finance at institutions such as Bank of America and the Bank Policy Institute. Effective lobbying, Hill emphasized, is about continually educating Congress on the real-world impacts of policy on banking. Topics included banking after the 2008 crisis and the potential of blockchain and stablecoins. We explored lobbying and financial policy with Hill during Speaking from Experience at our Rochester campus center on April 29, 2026.

This summer, TechBuffalo and the Golisano Institute for Business & Entrepreneurship are running the BusinessReady Tech Design Challenge, a hands-on series where recent grads use today's AI tools to solve real problems submitted by Western New York startups. You don't need any coding experience.
