  • Exceptional weather in Seattle last evening. Even a more exceptional vibe on the CoLab’s rooftop! On July 16th, consultants, founders, and industry leaders gathered on a rooftop overlooking the Space Needle for the first-ever PNW Life Science & Tech Consultants and Industry Allies Summit, and it confirmed something we've believed since day one: 👉 This community isn't just nice to have. It's essential infrastructure for how life sciences and tech are actually built in this region. Fractional talent, independent expertise, and the companies that rely on them are quietly powering biotech, medtech, pharma, and tech across the PNW. Last night, that quiet power got a little louder and a lot more connected. “Exceptional” “Awesome group of people” “I made more connections during this event than all others combined this year” These were just a few comments reverberating in the space. 🙏 Thank you to everyone who showed up, leaned in, and made the very first LSTCA Summit one to remember! This community is small enough to know and big enough to matter, and you proved it last night! A special thank-you to our sponsors, whose generosity made this evening possible: 🏢 CoLabs @ 222 Fifth — and Ulysis Rivera, VP, Life Science & Executive Director, for hosting us on that incredible rooftop and generously supporting the inaugural Summit 🧬 Collaborative Drug Discovery (CDD Vault) — William Wright and Jennifer I Drake, PhD 🔬 Fortrea — Jann Key Ague & Erica Figueroa 🧪 WuXi Biologics CRO Services — Agasthya Suresh and Shaun W, Ph.D. 📈 StratusG Consulting — Jary Krauser and Anthony Flint And to our volunteers — the ones who showed up early, kept check-in running smoothly, and made every guest feel welcome: Thank you, Dr. Gargi Mishra, Annika Iyer, Gabrielle N. Balistreri, Rian de Laat, PhD, and Sinead Marino, CPIM CSCP. This night doesn't happen without you! This is just the beginning. If last night proved anything, it's that the PNW life science and tech consulting community is ready to be seen, connected, and championed, and the Life Science & Tech Consultants Association is just getting started!

  • Most consultants think the hardest question is: “How do I convince a client to hire me?” A better question is: What makes a client call a consultant back? During LSTCA’s inaugural virtual panel, The Consultant’s Edge, we asked experienced consultants and client-side leaders what actually turns a one-time engagement into a long-term relationship. The answer was refreshingly practical. 👉 Do the work well enough that trust compounds. A relationship may get you in the door, but it will not keep you there if the work does not deliver. Trust evaporates quickly when results are weak. 👉 Treat every engagement like there could be a second and third. Even if the scope is small. Even if the project is short. Even if the client only hired you for one specific need. The way you show up on the first engagement is what determines whether they remember you for the next one. 👉 Respect the scope instead of forcing expansion. Not every client needs a two-year engagement. Sometimes success means solving the exact problem they hired you for — within the time, budget, and scope they gave you. That kind of discipline builds credibility. 👉 Adapt to the client’s communication style. This was one of Michelle Briscoe's clearest client-side points: - if the team works in Slack, use Slack - if they prefer email, use email - if they rely on quick verbal updates, adjust accordingly. The consultant who fits into the team’s rhythm is easier to trust and easier to bring back. 👉 Over-communicate when you’re not in the room. Consultants are often absent from hallway conversations, quick pivots, and informal updates within the company. So the best consultants proactively ask: - What has changed since we last talked? - Are we still aligned? - Is this still the right priority? 👉 Be generous in the early conversations, but know the line. Jenna Carlson made a point worth repeating: if you can solve someone’s problem in an hour, solve it. That generosity builds trust. But if someone keeps coming back for free advice without a real engagement, set boundaries. 👉 Make the client’s life easier. At the end of the day, clients rehire consultants who reduce friction. - They deliver - They communicate well - They fit the culture - They make the client feel safer, not busier That is the part of consulting we do not talk about enough. Rehireability is not just expertise. It is trust + execution + ease of working together. And trust starts long before the 1st contract. It starts when people get to know each other. That is exactly why LSTCA is hosting PNW Life Science & Tech Consultants and Industry Allies Summit: 👉 an evening designed for real conversations, real relationships, and the kind of trust-building that makes future collaboration possible. Because the best consulting relationships rarely start with a pitch. They start with being in the room. July 16 | 5:00–7:30 PM CoLabs @ 222 Fifth, Seattle Register: luma.com/o33u2tkp

  • 63%. That's how many life science and tech consultants said their weakest area in client acquisition is getting the first conversation. Not closing. Not pricing. Not even follow-up. Just... getting someone to pick up the phone. We asked 98 consultants this question live during LSTCA's inaugural virtual panel — The Consultant's Edge: How to Find, Win, and Keep Great Clients — and the answer was unambiguous. The hardest part isn't being good at what you do. It's getting in front of someone who needs it. Here's what our panelists — seasoned consultants and a biotech executive who hires them — said actually works: 💡 Your network is your pipeline. Clients almost always look internally first: "Does anyone in the room know someone?" If you're not already on someone's radar before they have a need, you may never get the call. (Michelle Briscoe, COO/CFO, Talus Bio) 💡Be generous with the first conversation. If you can solve a problem in an hour, solve it. That generosity builds the trust that leads to real engagements — and referrals. (Jenna Carlson, Mindful Quality) 💡Know yourself to be known by others. Clarity about your niche and target client makes your network work for you. People can't refer you if they don't know exactly what you do. (Teresa Byrne, TMByrne Consulting) 💡Research before you reach out. Sending a generic service offer to someone who already does that work signals you don't know who you're talking to. It's an instant credibility killer. (Ali Siahpush, PhD , PhD, Pharmefex) 💡Personalized outreach > automated sequences. A respectful, specific cold email gets saved. A templated one gets blocked. (Michelle Briscoe, COO/CFO, Talus Bio) The first conversation isn't a sales call. It's a trust-building moment. And trust, as 56% of the same audience confirmed, is what wins clients more than anything else. If networking is the engine, let's give you the fuel. 👉On July 16th, LSTCA is bringing together life science and tech consultants, founders, and industry allies for an evening of exactly that 👉real conversations, real connections, on a rooftop overlooking the Space Needle. 📍CoLabs @ 222 Fifth, Seattle | 5:00–7:30 PM 🔗Secure your spot: luma.com/o33u2tkp
