    Why does so much scientist time still go to everything except the science? 🧪 Our VP of Global Alliances and Marketing, Jon Zibell, recently contributed to the ZAGENO Inc. blog on this very question. Part of the answer is that lab software and operational infrastructure grew up separately. A scientist can plan their next experiment in an electronic lab notebook (ELN) in an afternoon, but whether it happens on schedule depends on things the ELN never sees: materials arriving, suppliers getting approved, or orders clearing internal reviews.     Two months. That's how long Boston University needed to get an in-house COVID-19 testing lab from kickoff to fully live 🧪 In fall 2020, BU set out to test students, faculty, and staff on campus, with results delivered by the next day. At its peak, the BU Clinical Testing Laboratory processed more than 9,000 samples per day. Test orders would come in from two Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems, one for students and one for employees. Samples ran through testing robots and results had to land back in the right EMR, reliably, every day. SciSure's Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) and its APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) connected the robots and both EMRs, and kept duplicate barcodes out of the system. 🚀 Zareh Zurabyan, VP, Enterprise Solutions Architect, at SciSure, shares: "We had an impressive number of collaborators for this project, from Enterprise Health, Hamilton Robotics, and local hospitals and health clinics. It was inspiring to watch them mobilize and come together on the basis of common values of public health and safety. Even more impressive was the digital tech stack infrastructure of Damp Lab that was built in a very short period of time, leveraging the available APIs of all parties involved for seamless data flow, analysis, and reporting. Everyone involved did a phenomenal job to accomplish the goals at hand!" 👩🔬 Six years on, the takeaway still holds: the labs that scale fastest are the ones whose systems already talk to each other.
