When Camden was diagnosed with embryonal #rhabdomyosarcoma in November 2024, his family entered a battle no child should have to face. 💔 Over the past 556 days, Camden has endured 24 weeks of chemotherapy, 28 radiation treatments, countless procedures, hospital stays, and transfusions, all while completing six rounds of week-long chemotherapy at his local children's hospital. After his cancer returned just 10 weeks following frontline treatment, his family sought specialized care. 🙏 This led Camden to become the 4th patient in the world to receive an innovative experimental treatment in New York, making eight trips over the past 8 months while continuing his fight. Today, Camden and his brother Logan are channeling their journey into something bigger. Every #research breakthrough helps move childhood #cancer care forward. 🙏 A recent study found that children with metastatic #rhabdomyosarcoma whose cancer had spread to only one site at diagnosis had significantly better survival than those with cancer in multiple metastatic sites. Researchers also identified genetic changes associated with poorer outcomes, reinforcing the need for more personalized treatment approaches. Studies like this help doctors better understand which children may benefit from different therapies – and ultimately improve care for kids facing cancer. Some children are diagnosed with cancer more often than other children and sometimes they do not respond as well to treatment and have worse outcomes. In part, this is attributed to limited enrollment in clinical trials causing a lack of information in children with cancer. Dr. Flatt's continued work aims to close that gap. The story behind the hair that inspired this Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft prospect's 'Baseball Jesus' nickname. It might appear that Aiden Robbins’ nickname is related to the exaltation of his skill set on the field, but it actually has a more follicular origination. “I guess it was a bad hair day,” said Robbins. “My hair was super long. [The University of Texas at Austin head coach Jim Schlossnagle] just said it one day and it stuck around the locker room.…I did this photo shoot and I was wearing all white. So all white, this long hair -- I just looked like Baseball Jesus, I guess.” But those long, flowing locks mean a lot more to Robbins than just a nickname. The 21-year-old is used to the cyclical pattern of letting his hair grow out and then shaving it all to help raise money for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, with whom he's had a connection for roughly 15 years of his life. Robbins’ best friend from childhood, Lauren Maziarz, was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a form of cancer, before passing away at 5 years and one day old.
