UC|CSU Collaborative for Neuroscience, Diversity, and Learning is a state-funded partnership between the University of California and California State University systems dedicated to reshaping teaching and learning in California. We honor and nurture the strengths and differences of young learners through informed policy, practice, and educator preparation. We are partnering with those invested in elevating the educational experience of all children to create an all-in-one, easy-to-access resource hub for educators, students, and families.   • Assistive Technology (AT) is a range of tools, strategies, and services that enables a student with a disability to complete a task they would otherwise have difficulty with or be unable to do.     • Since 1990, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act has required assistive technology (AT) devices and services be available to every student with a disability — if that student needs AT in order to receive a free and appropriate public education.     • According to The National Longitudinal Transition Study, students who received assistive technology (AT): Graduated at a rate of 99.8% compared to 79.6% for students who did not receive AT. Enrolled in postsecondary education programs at a rate of 80.9% compared to 40.1% for students who did not receive AT. Patel was elected in 2024 to represent California’s 76th Assembly District in northern San Diego County, including Escondido, San Marcos, parts of San Diego, and surrounding unincorporated communities. A research scientist, former school board president, and community leader, she earned a B.A. in Biochemistry from Occidental College and a Ph.D. in Biophysics from the University of California, Irvine, before working in biotechnology research. Special guest Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye has joined ADR Services, Inc. following a trailblazing career as the first Asian-Filipina American Chief Justice of California. During her 12-year tenure, she successfully guided the state's judicial branch through the Great Recession and the COVID-19 pandemic while championing court funding reforms, civic education, and public transparency. Currently serving as the President and CEO of the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC), she is available through ADR Services, Inc. for mediations, consultations, and mock trials. He also served as a Deputy City Attorney in his hometown of Santa Cruz, California. Before attending law school, Brooks was an Upward Bound program coordinator, an admissions officer with Stanford University, and a policy analyst with the U.S. Department of Education.
