Krish Prasad breaks down how Audi's Edge Cloud 4 Production (EC4P) made it real with VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) at the Edge, and what it means for every manufacturer ready to bring modern IT to the factory floor.
I've had many conversations about factory modernization over the past couple of years. Here is an exciting one about how Audi transformed its factory using the VMware Cloud Foundation. Audi's Böllinger Höfe plant is manufacturing the e-tron GT on VMware Cloud Foundation at the Edge — automation logic decoupled from the physical machines, IT and OT on shared infrastructure, with shop-floor data driving AI-based predictive analytics. Audi and Siemens deployed the world's first TÜV-certified virtual failsafe PLC on that same infrastructure. Safety-critical workloads, fully in software, and fully certified. VCF at the Edge is what transformed the traditional factory floor into a full software-defined private edge cloud.
