Startup job descriptions need translation. “High ownership” can mean freedom. It can also mean incomplete information. “Fast-paced” can mean momentum. It can also mean priorities changing every week. Read the JD.Then read between the lines. #StartupJobs #CareerAdvice #TechJobs #WeekdayAI

Which job would they apply to? Some characters just have obvious startup energy. Lucifer as the GTM lead. Sherlock as the data scientist. Barney as the enterprise AE. Rachel as the brand marketer. And honestly, Kevin in finance ops makes too much sense. If your personality had to pick a startup role, what would it be? #StartupJobs #CareerMatch #Hiring #WeekdayAI

The best jobs rarely wait patiently in an application queue. They move through conversations, referrals, and people who already know who to call. If your search feels stuck at 99%, maybe the problem isn’t your resume. Maybe you’re standing in the slow lane. Get into the lane where companies find you first.

The job description you're reading was probably written about someone who just left. Here's the part nobody tells candidates. When a role opens up, the person writing the JD usually just watched the last person in that seat struggle or walk out. So the "must haves" aren't a neutral wishlist. They're a patch for whatever went wrong last time. The last person overpromised and under-shipped? Now the JD says "bias for execution" 3 different ways. Great solo but couldn't work with design? Suddenly "strong cross-functional collaboration" is non-negotiable. Needed too much hand-holding? "Comfortable with ambiguity" jumps to the top. Read a JD like this and it stops being a list of skills. It becomes a list of fears. Which changes what you do in the interview. Everyone in the room can probably do the job. You're really there to prove you're not the last person's mistake happening again. So find the pain. Ask what happened to the role, what the team wishes the last person had done differently, what good looks like in the first 90 days. Then point every answer straight at that gap. The candidate who reads the fears beats the candidate who just reads the requirements. What's a JD line you now realize was really about someone who left? #JobSearch #Interviews #CareerAdvice #Hiring

Job boards, a resume tailor, a tracker sheet, three newsletters, the odd AI cover-letter thing. The stack keeps growing and the replies mostly don't. Here's the quiet part: a lot of the best roles never touch any of those tools. They get filled through a referral, a warm intro, or a recruiter who reached out first. So what's your number today? Drop it below.

How do you spot a dead-end role in one question? Every company sells "growth opportunities." Very few can point to a real one on the spot. So ask them this: "Who was the last person promoted out of this exact role, and what did they actually do to earn it?" It turns a vague promise into a specific precedent. You're not asking whether growth is possible here. You're asking for proof it has already happened, in this seat. Here's how to read the answer: - If they name someone fast and walk you through the path, the growth here is real - If they praise the "learning culture" but can't name a single person, the role is probably a dead end - If the last person in this seat left instead of moving up, you just learned that before you signed The best answer sounds like a story about a real person. The worst one sounds like a careers page. Ask it in the last 10 minutes, when they turn it over to your questions. It lands very differently from "what are the growth opportunities here." #InterviewTips #JobSearch #CareerGrowth #Hiring
