The best business advice is usually hiding outside your industry. Last night’s Genius Networking Happy Hour was a perfect reminder of why I love the Denver entrepreneur community. I didn't go in with a specific agenda or a list of "tech" people to find. I just wanted to hear from others who are in the thick of building something. Sometimes the most valuable conversations happen when you step outside your own bubble. I spent the evening deep in the weeds with founders from completely different worlds, ranging from service-based businesses to building SaaS platforms. There is something incredibly grounding about hearing perspective from other entrepreneurial journeys We didn't just trade business cards; we traded war stories. It was a fantastic bonus to run into several people building in the AI space as well. Swapping notes on where the technology is headed while standing in a room full of diverse business owners gave me a much broader perspective on how AI will actually impact the "real world" of business. I’ve always loved getting "under the hood" of a company. I’m less interested in the polished pitch and much more interested in: The specific hurdles you’re clearing this month. The pivots that actually worked (and the ones that flopped). The human side of leadership and scaling a team. Whether you are building a complex neural network or a local service business, the DNA of a founder is the same. The grit required to build something from nothing is universal. Denver is a founder hub, plain and simple. The willingness to share, collaborate, and dive deep into the "how" of business is what sets this city apart. How did this Utah-based firm grow revenue from $16m to $50m & triple profit in just 3 years? First, they partnered with one of the best minds in Sales Growth & Scale, Jonathan Nabrotzky. Jonathan wasn't just sharing theories; he had decades of real-world experience sitting in their seat, facing their challenges, and that expertise turned decades into days. We then added some of our most experienced partners in Elizabeth Oates, Malik Sarwar, and LuAnne Kingston to bring their practitioner experience to help our client truly transform. Our team worked with them to create the right scorecards, processes, and structure, combined with sales training and consistent coaching. Before we came in, as a Wealth Management company, their average assets per advisor was ~$19m (which is already a great start). We doubled to $39m per advisor in gross new Wealth assets, and their close ratio went from 22% to 32%. The "wallet share" (the portion of a client’s total spending) increased $20m per advisor in new assets from existing clients, along with 25% growth annually from learning how to get referrals. Since we do a holistic diagnosis, we also looked at their org structure. They increased capacity by going from 12 Advisors in one state to 26 Advisors in 3 states. When we looked at their work scope, we discovered each of the advisors was doing everything: transactions, new sales, servicing, orders, transactions, client calls, etc. The problem with that approach was that their top relationship managers were spending hours on tasks a junior could handle - causing lost productivity from the group whose time was most valuable in relationship-building and revenue-generating activities. Our recommendation initially sounded absurd...they almost laughed when we said to add $𝟐 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 in labor costs in support staff. Who adds more cost to increase revenue? But here's why it worked: The advisors got support based on what their portfolios required. For example, the top 4 advisors got one-on-one junior associates (fully licensed), the middle had a two-to-one ratio, and the newer advisors with smaller portfolios managed their own directly. And the results? Those top advisors jumped from $20 million to over $60 million each by year three. We freed them from the transactional work. The new central sales and support team managed over 2,000 clients, which allowed advisors to focus on fewer, higher-value ones. Global Leader Group's fees over that period were ~$1.2 million, but by year three, that investment had translated into $16 million in additional annual profit - a 10x return driven by organizational effectiveness.
