Very excited to have been part of the journey and proud of the amazing work that Mitesh Agrawal, Thomas, Greg Davis, Edward Kmett, John Fry, Cameron McCaskill and everyone at Positron have achieved. Chee-We Ng shared thisLots of frenzy going on with Nvidia's $20B "acquisition" of Groq. The articles below are the most insightful to me. Key takeaways: 1. Market pivot away from training to inference is furiously on the way 2. In inference, Nvidia GPUs burn 10 to 30 Joules per token for memory fetches and are idle majority of time waiting for data from memory 3. Google TPU is gaining ground in Apple and Meta, and Nivida's move is for Groq's software and a defensive move against Google 4. To run Llama 3 70B, Groq requires a **rack of 576 chips.** Very fast, but analyst Alex Platt argues the limited 230MB memory capacity of Groq chips means the hardware isn't suitable for many inference tasks. @Positron AI: - Atlas (4U server with 8 chips) runs Llama at 1/2 price, 1/3 power consumption and almost 2x performance compared to Nvidia - only AI chip company that's deployed at a hyperscaler (other than Nvidia and AMD, as far as I know). We truly need AI to defend AI enabled attacks because humans can’t keep up!Chee-We Ng shared thisAnthropic’s Coding Agent Hit by a Major AI-Driven Cyberattack Anthropic confirmed that state-linked attackers used Claude Code to run coordinated intrusions across 30+ tech, finance, manufacturing, and government organizations. The attackers disguised their actions as legitimate security testing, tricking the agent into helping them break in. How the Attack Worked (5 Phases) 1️⃣ Targeting: Operators picked high-value targets and set up the attack pipeline. 2️⃣ Jailbreaking: Claude Code was misled into granting unauthorized access. 3️⃣ Recon: The agent mapped systems and found sensitive assets at high speed. 4️⃣ Exploitation: It wrote exploit code, stole credentials, installed backdoors, and exfiltrated data. 5️⃣ Documentation: It logged all steps to enable repeat attacks. How Anthropic Responded Launched an immediate investigation to trace the intrusion. Banned accounts tied to the attack. Alerted affected organizations and worked with authorities to contain the threat. This incident shows that autonomous agents can amplify attacks if not secured. Powerful systems bring hidden risks—and without strong safeguards, the impact can be severe. Believe it or not, security must be the highest priority when deploying agents into production. Just last month, we also celebrated Fan’s 5th anniversary. We don’t call them work anniversaries. We call them Thanksworking Day. Every team member receives an extra day off—but there’s one catch. They have to spend it with the people who made their journey possible by inviting their family out for a meal or an outing to say thank you. After all, behind every dedicated employee is a family that has patiently tolerated late-night calls, weekend flights, endless discussions about investments… and the occasional “I’ll be home soon” that somehow means three hours later. Both were built to guard the perimeter: who gets in, what traffic looks suspicious. Neither was built to understand what happens once an AI system starts reasoning over enterprise data, which fields it touches, what it infers, where that reasoning goes next. That gap is exactly what Claudio Coelho Jr, former Head of AI at Palo Alto Networks and Zscaler, pointed to when he looked at where we were headed: ↳ "Zero Trust and AI Firewalls can't protect Enterprise AI without reasoning over data" ↳ "DAXA saw that very early on" That's the gap DAXA came in to close. The faculty sessions reminded me what makes HBS such an indelible experience. The best professors don't just teach business - they teach us how to think, how to lead, and how to navigate uncertainty with curiosity and humility. They challenge us to develop judgment and other uniquely human skills that matter even more in the age of AI. And Dr. Arthur Brooks reminded us that happiness requires meaning, not just achievement. But those weren't the moments that stayed with me most - it was the moments of reconnection with classmates and realizing how much hard-won wisdom accumulates over 2 decades. There was something surreal about our section discussion with the 90 classmates we spent our first year with, many of whom I hadn't spoken to in years. The conversation was raw, honest, and vulnerable - sharing victories and scars. People spoke candidly about mental health, physical scares, careers that hadn't gone according to plan, and dreams that had evolved over time. What struck me most was the implicit trust in the room with no fear of judgment. I am especially grateful to Professor Joshua Margolis for creating the space for such an honest section discussion, to Jason Glass and Farah Nathani-Menzies for bringing our class back together so thoughtfully, and to Farah Nathani-Menzies and Suchit Majmudar for a memorable session on the importance of active listening. I left the reunion reminded that the greatest gift HBS gave me wasn't a credential or network - it was a community that still feels like home 20 years later. Here’s to the friendships that can pick up exactly where they left off, the conversations that remind us we're never as alone as we think, and the shared understanding, perspective, and resilience that continue to carry us forward. #HarvardBusinessSchool #Leadership #Community

The golden age of AI and robotics in industry - and agtech - is fast approaching. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, speaking during a recent visit to China, reflected on the shifting tides in technology: “Over the next decade, as we develop a new generation of advanced plants and factories, they’ll be highly robotic — helping us address the global labor shortages we’re facing.” And this transformation doesn’t stop at factories. It’s coming to our fields, our greenhouses, and even the mushroom caves. Although the agrifood tech sector has been slower to embrace AI compared to other industries, its role is becoming increasingly vital, particularly in processing the vast and growing volumes of data generated by IoT sensors and computer vision systems across fields, greenhouses, and food production facilities. AI is now turning complex data—structured, textual, and visual—into actionable insights that drive automation and enable more intelligent decision-making. In agriculture, these data streams span GPS coordinates, humidity, radiation, and temperature measurements, as well as key input data related to water, nutrients, and pesticides. Unlike many industrial sectors, this data is highly fragmented and not readily compatible with generic AI platforms, opening the door for specialized, domain-specific tools such as AI-powered farm management systems, vision-based robotics, and predictive analytics. At the same time, robotics is advancing rapidly alongside AI. Modern robots are becoming increasingly adept at navigating and operating in complex, unstructured environments—significantly broadening their potential applications. This progress is powered by advancements in sensing technologies and computing power, enabling real-time, deterministic operations that are essential for safety in dynamic settings. Among the most promising technologies we’re tracking are autonomous farm robots capable of working independently or in coordination with human operators, AI-powered drones with autonomous navigation, and swarm robotics systems that coordinate decentralized, multi-agent operations. The same autonomy and perception technologies are now being applied across crops from lettuce to orchards to row crops, driving one of the most important transitions in agriculture. The US defense industrial base has a structural problem that creates opportunity. The issue: • A few number of primes dominate procurement • Cost-plus contracts incentivize rising costs • Thousands of lobbyists maintain the system Promising defense-tech startups die before scaling, crushed by procurement friction they can't navigate. This "valley of death" is where specialist capital can outperform - funds that understand DoD go-to-market and have patience to back companies through the scaling gap.

Gross margin: Nvidia reported and guided for gross margin of ~75%, and expects to be able to sustain gross margins in the mid-70% range throughout calendar 2026, despite the impact of significantly higher memory (HBM) prices. We believe this gross margin strength reflects significant advance purchase commitments tied to memory made by the company in 2025. Although management indicated that it will continue to monitor the potential impact to gross margin beyond 2026, the company believes that gross margins will continue to be driven by the level of annual cost reduction and delivering industry leading TCO is the top priority for continued proliferation of AI across agenticAI and physicalAI.

Today, QCI joined forces with D-Wave in a $550M acquisition, extending a technical path set in motion years ago. Canaan invested in QCI in 2017 for two reasons. First, an extraordinary founding team led by Robert Schoelkopf — researchers who helped invent superconducting quantum computing itself. Second, a hard-earned insight the rest of the market hadn’t yet embraced: solving error correction was critical to scaling up useful quantum computers. At the time, focusing on error correction ran counter to where most of the field was focused. Today, it’s widely recognized as essential. Quantum computing rewards discipline over hype. Accuracy has to come before scale, and systems have to be built around the realities of physics. That discipline is what made QCI competitive with the largest players in the field. I’m grateful for nearly a decade of partnership with Rob Schoelkopf and proud of what the QCI team built by staying focused on first principles. The U.S. tightening restrictions on advanced chip production in China and the immediate drop in Samsung and SK Hynix shares shows how politicized this industry has become. What troubles me is that we are entering a world where capital markets, engineering roadmaps, and national security priorities collide head on, leaving investors exposed to forces beyond traditional business fundamentals. On one hand Washington’s strategy is clear: slow China’s ability to scale advanced memory and logic, preserve U.S. leverage, and protect allied ecosystems. Yet semiconductors are inherently global. Trying to wall off innovation through export controls may buy time but it risks fueling parallel ecosystems, fragmenting standards, and accelerating the very independence that Washington fears. I have seen how fragile fabs and supply chains already are, from material sourcing to tool installation to yield ramp. Adding political volatility to technical volatility makes long term planning nearly impossible. For companies like Samsung and SK Hynix, billions invested in China now sit in limbo while investors question whether these firms can hedge exposure without losing scale. Here is the question worth debating: are these restrictions strengthening U.S. leadership, or eroding it. In trying to protect an advantage, are we inviting a global split that will raise costs, slow collaboration, and force talent to choose sides. From the perspective of someone who has lived through both engineering trenches and capital allocation battles, this feels less like strategy and more like brinkmanship. Hexcel Adds Independent Director in Deal With Activist Investor "Hexcel added a new independent director to its board in a move that avoids a potential proxy fight for the aerospace materials company with activist investor Vision One Fund. "As part of an agreement between the two sides, Vision One will withdraw their nominees to the board that were to be voted on at the company's annual shareholder meeting. Vision One will also support Hexcel's board nominees, and agree to certain standstill restrictions and mutual non-disparagement provisions, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday. "The new director, former Kaman Chief Executive Officer Neal Keating, was appointed effective Tuesday." Keating's experience in aerospace may make him an ideal director choice. Yet from a bigger picture perspective, I wonder if this settlement is the right move for investors. More and more activist campaigns are settling rather than running the full process of a proxy fight with typically a greater number of directors nominated by the activist.
