Key takeaways: The decisions made today on #energy #innovation and tech #deployment will shape US competitiveness for decades. The US energy landscape is at a crossroads: • Electricity demand is growing at a pace not seen in generations • AI is creating both opportunity and new infrastructure pressures • Historic IPOs signal momentum in advanced energy • Competition abroad is accelerating Recent milestones—from X-energy to Fervo Energy—show what’s possible when targeted public investment helps unlock early bottlenecks and private capital follows. But innovation alone is not enough, deployment will be key: grids, transmission, supply chains, industrial demand, and policy certainty. If the US wants to remain competitive domestically, both sustained demand signals—including for #electric vehicles—and greater policy certainty across administrations will be required to enable long-lead infrastructure investments. In 2025 alone, businesses abandoned over $35 billion in clean energy projects. And more must be done to support innovators beyond US borders. Globally, 94 percent of #nuclear reactors that began construction over the past decade were based on Russian or Chinese designs. Conner Prochaska liked thisHappy 250th, America! I had an inspiring time celebrating our nation’s long tradition of scientific ingenuity at the Great American State Fair. At the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) booth, I enjoyed speaking with visitors about the Genesis Mission and the decades of discovery across DOE and our National Laboratories. Moments like this show how deeply innovation is woven into our country’s history. A standout experience was seeing Aires Tide, a concept flight test vehicle from the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), developed using advanced AI, high‑performance computing, and additive manufacturing. It’s one of the first practical demonstrations of the Genesis Mission—showing how DOE research moves from breakthrough ideas to real‑world applications. I also couldn’t resist spending a few minutes with Los Alamos National Laboratory’s robot dog—a crowd favorite that perfectly illustrates how creative engineering can revolutionize operations and capture the public’s imagination. Events like this remind me how much curiosity, creativity, and scientific commitment fuel our progress. Here’s to the next 250 years of American leadership in innovation! -

As I begin my term as president of the American Nuclear Society, I feel both grateful and energized by the privilege of serving this remarkable community alongside Craig Piercy This is a moment of tremendous promise for nuclear science and technology. Across the nation, there is growing recognition that nuclear energy and nuclear technologies are essential to addressing some of society’s most pressing challenges. At the same time, advances in medical isotopes, fusion, space nuclear systems, and advanced reactors are creating new possibilities for impact. But realizing that promise will require more than innovation alone. It will take a strong workforce, rigorous standards, trusted institutions, public confidence, and sustained collaboration across industry, government, academia, national laboratories, and emerging technology sectors.
