From Market Signals to Opportunity What do spikes in Associate hiring at search firms and Q4 ramp-ups in PE/VC talent teams have in common? They are both early indicators of market confidence. Search firms do not add headcount unless they see sustainable client demand ahead. PE/VC funds do not open new portfolio roles unless they are moving on strategic growth. Tempting Talent’s view from both sides of this equation confirms it—those hiring trends point to stronger deal flow and more active talent acquisition heading into the end of 2025. When both sides are ramping up, it is a signal that: • Deal flow is translating into leadership demand. • Talent acquisition is back on the front foot. • 2026 could start stronger than many expected. The challenge now is moving quickly enough to secure the best talent before the rest of the market catches on.

Why do some interim hires land quickly while others stall? It’s come up a lot with investment teams and operating partners recently. Here’s what actually makes the difference: – Clear scope, even if it evolves. – Alignment between PE, leadership and the interim before day one. – People who’ve already operated in PE or heavy-change environments. It’s rarely about finding “the best person.” It’s about finding someone who fits the pace, expectations and stage of the journey. And this is the lens I use when I build interim benches.
