So my record player has been out of commission for an embarrassing amount of time… The tone arm kept sliding across my records, and I've been trying to DIY fix it w the help of ChatGPT and my mini stylus force scale ⚖️ I kept adjusting the weight and ChatGPT kept trying to tell me I had a missing counterweight (Note - there's never been a separate counterweight) Anyway, after waiting way too long, I took it into Tom’s Sound downtown and within 5 seconds they told me… “You're missing the needle” 😯 The stylus had either worn down or broken off… and I didn’t have the expertise to see it 🫥 So while AI is great for troubleshooting, ideating, automating… sometimes you still need an expert who’s put in the 10,000 hours to help spot what everyone else missed. #StaySaucy #AI #HighFidelity

Alex Holt shared thisThis is the face of someone who just set up their first Microsoft Power Automate “flows” and Claude Cowork’d his way to a weekly Food Cost tracker that updates itself! 😃 Starting in January, I started hearing rave reviews from folks who attended the Caravan - AI Training training and last week I finally took the plunge (it’s never too late, right!?) So, Friday afternoon, I set up Power Automate to pull ~ 2 years of weekly invoice CSVs (straight from Outlook to a defined folder on my desktop) 📥 Then I pointed Claude Cowork to that folder, and it crunched ~125,000 rows of data… building a price tracker (in Excel) grouped by Cost Category, flagging any spikes over a % threshold, with YoY comparison trends to boot 📊 And then yesterday, I just said… “Update the Tracker”… and it did 🤩 Guys, I am freaking pumped!! Also… we need to check on some cost spikes in Oil and Tomatoes! 🧐 If you haven’t taken the plunge beyond your favorite AI tool’s chat feature, I highly recommend you give it a whirl! #StaySaucy #BirminghamAI #Claude #PowerAutomate

Alex Holt liked thisAlex Holt liked thisWanted to share a small thing I built at DevClarity this week. Some of the work we do involves editing AI first drafts. The usual loop: read the draft, then type your feedback back to the model. "Too long here, awkward there, cut this." A little bit clunky & inefficient. And you're doing it in the wrong view. In the IDE you're reading raw (or previewed) markdown, but the thing you're actually shipping is a formatted email or a PDF. So you end up judging length, tone, and flow against a version that looks nothing like what the reader will see. So I built a Claude Code skill for it. It renders the draft the way it will actually land and gives you hotkeys for edits. Highlight a section then tap a number for quick feedback (shorten, awkward, add detail, delete). When you're done, it hands the marked up draft back to Claude, which applies every edit and re-opens the new draft for another pass. No new model or cleverer prompt behind it, just a little less friction in something I do frequently.

Alex Holt liked thisAlex Holt liked thisMy son started this business with an end result in mind - a large purchase at the finality of the summer. He has been working - every opportunity he gets. Picture this: Rain. Rain forecasted. Overcast. Middle of the week. Random 2 PM hour. As I am leading a call, I mute it quickly to let him know that the conditions might not be right for the lemonade stand today. He obviously didn’t listen. About five minutes after the door shuts, I receive a text message while I’m on my call that says, ‘Someone just gave me $100’! No running in the door and screaming. No crazy excitement. Just a simple statement and keeps working. He didn’t shut up shop. He wanted to serve, save, and give back. He IS on a mission. I sat there for a brief moment and checked myself. How many times do we wait for the most perfect conditions before we move? The perfect timing? The perfect market? The perfect moment to launch? The perfect moment to reach out? The perfect moment to ask? The perfect moment to start? Discipline doesn’t wait for perfect conditions. It moves through them. This was a sweet reminder right in the middle of my ordinary day.

It's been a journey, and we've had a lot of help along the way. I told my parents recently that I'm most proud of the team we've built. Great people, working hard, doing great things. (thanks Nick for surprising us with cupcakes!) Extremely thankful for Peter Inge, CFA and the relationship we have. Most thankful for the support I continue to get from Sarah Blackburn. Alright... back to work!

PwC read a billion job postings in the past year. Entry-level jobs in AI-heavy fields are now 7x more likely to demand senior skills. That’s bonkers. Harvard tracked 62 million workers: junior hiring drops 8% when companies adopt AI. Grad underemployment: 42.5%. Big companies are burning the first rung of the ladder. What does that say about the workforce in 10, 20, 30 years? Small companies still own it and it’s an opportunity. At a 40-person shop, the new hire sits next to the owner. Hears the hard call.
