Very successful SB5255 blade storage appliance received this award for packaging density and unique capability.
With 12 3.5" HDDs in a single 1U blade, and a COTS-based head node, a 5U cluster of a head node and 4 storage modules could hold 48 TB of data with the drives available, and would realize a quarter of a petabyte with 5TB drives.
The product sold over 70PetaBytes in it's first 9 months in the market. -
ASIC in the Smithsonian
Smithsonian Institute
The first SCSI ASIC in the industry, and much of the SCSI protocol, was developed by Jim and his engineering team at NCR.
NCR donated the first working SCSI chip to the Smithsonian, where it is a unique artifact of the beginning of an industry
