During a 1:1 call coaching session for a client with an SDR last week, he told me this objection was stopping him from getting into the real value his product delivers. So instead of trying to 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 the budget objection, I encouraged him to 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞 it with this simple question. “𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐟 𝐛𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧’𝐭 𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞?” Why it works: • The convo shifts from cost to pain points, needs and outcomes • You uncover what’s most important to the district right now This week we reviewed a call where he tried it. He heard budget, asked the question and everything changed. The prospect engaged.  The value was demonstrated. The demo got booked.  Sometimes the best way past the budget objection isn’t to fight it…𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐭. 𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐨𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Try saying: “𝘐 𝘵𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘧 𝘣𝘶𝘥𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯’𝘵 𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘶𝘦…“ This powerful shift should open up more "value" conversations, because we all know, without seeing the value there is no way to advance the opportunity. AI SDRs don’t fail because the technology doesn’t work. They fail because we’re asking the wrong question. The conversation across the industry seems to revolve around: “Will AI replace my SDR?” That’s the wrong framing. Today, most SDRs spend nearly 70–80% of their time on tasks that don’t develop them — researching accounts, drafting repetitive outreach, qualifying inbound leads, updating CRM fields. Necessary work, yes. But not the work that builds real sales capability. No one joins sales to become a data-entry specialist. The SDR role isn’t dying. It’s being unburdened.
