I watch 100s of demos a year and 90% of the time the Solutions Engineers or Sales Rep does this (forgetably)... Quick intro, then -> -> Demo of 1st Solution/Module -> -> Demo of 2nd Solution/Module -> -> Demo of 3rd Solution/Module -> ...etc... Here's the problem... We think we are doing our job by selling the "Solution" instead of the "Feature." But the prospect doesn't see it that way. The prospect sees: Feature 1 -> Feature 2 -> Feature 3. Why is that? Because when we only talk about solutions and not problems, the prospect doesn't see the solution as a solution. It's just a feature to them. The way to shift from selling features to selling solutions is to remind the prospect of the problem that is being solved. The best way to do this is through storytelling because it makes the problem extremely real and emotional for the prospect. When you do this well, the prospect leaves the meeting thinking, "this SE/AE understands my business." And that's exactly what you want. --- Lack of storytelling is one of the biggest misses I see in B2B sales because if you're not winning deals, the reason is usually pretty simple: you're either not leading, you're not asking the right questions, or you're not telling the right stories. 🚨 Big shift alert: LinkedIn changed how your feed works [and it’s awesome news for sales reps] Yesterday I was catching up with a former SaaS client and explaining how I teach sales teams to use LinkedIn to build real relationships again...so selling feels more human and leads close faster. His response "ughhh - LinkedIn. What has HAPPENED to it!!??" - He hates his feed. Its filled with politics and stuff that is not relevant to him or his prospects (and he's not alone) GOOD NEWS... LinkedIn isn't broken (far from it), it's evolving.... And luckily I subscribe to Richard van der Blom's Algorithm Insights (that just so happened to drop a MAJOR update today!) LinkedIn no longer just shows you posts from people you’re connected to The feed has officially gone from a “who you know” network → to a “what you care about” network That means: You’re not limited by your current connections anymore. You can shape your feed to surface your buyers, your industry, and your conversations...ON PURPOSE!!! And the algorithm is basically saying, “Tell me what you want more of, and I’ll serve it up.” 🤯 In other words: you can now train LinkedIn to bring leads to you, instead of hunting through noise and finding stuff to comment on will be waaay less arduous. 👇 Why this is awesome for sales reps👇 Your feed can literally become your daily prospecting list if you treat it that way. Instead of scrolling through random updates, imagine a feed filled with: Prospects talking about problems you solve Buyers commenting on relevant posts Warm engagement opportunities before the first DM That's what's so cool about the way the feed operates now... It learns from what you click, comment on, and follow, and it rewards intentional activity. So here's how to make the most of it 1. Train your feed daily. Comment on the types of posts your buyers engage with. Your activity tells LinkedIn what to show you next. Think of every comment as a search query. 2. Follow your buyers world Think about who shapes their world: the leaders, peers, and creators they already follow, quote, or learn from. That might be customers, partners, or industry voices having the conversations your buyers care about. Unfollow anything that doesn't align 3. Use the 🔔 It shows you content from people you chose to follow, not random viral posts. 4. GTF out of your echo-chamber!!! Comment across industries that influence your buyers. LinkedIn’s model now rewards cross-network engagement 5. Save your daily circuit. When you find creators or conversations that lead to pipeline, save them. Revisit those threads daily. Show up where your buyers already hang out (remember most of them are lurkers!) Your feed isn’t random anymore. It’s reactive. Make it react to you. Salesforce Contract Rates: How High Is Too High? I see this mistake with Salesforce contractors all the time. They look at a partner’s rate card and think: “I’ll charge $150/hr. I’m still cheaper than them, so I’ll win.” Here’s the reality of the U.S. market. Most boutique and mid-market Salesforce partners bill clients $200–$300/hr. • ~$200/hr is common for boutiques • Enterprise and Big 4 firms push $300+ Partners typically target 30–50% margins on projects. I recently spoke with a friend who runs delivery at a 20-person Salesforce partner. Their internal break-even cost per consultant is ~$130/hr. That’s not profit. That just covers bench time, sales costs, software, and overhead. If a partner bills $200/hr and pays you $150/hr, the math doesn’t work. The “Competitor” Trap At $160/hr, you’re no longer pricing yourself as a subcontractor. You’re pricing yourself as a competitor. At that point, the client starts asking: “Why hire one independent consultant at this rate instead of a partner that brings a full team?” Right or wrong, a team is perceived as lower risk and higher value, even when the independent has more experience than the people doing the work. The Trade-Offs of High Rates ($150+) Pros • Higher income for fewer hours • More direct end-customer work • Subcontracting primarily through GSIs and Big 4 firms with higher bill rates and longer projects Cons • You must source all your own work • You are the salesperson • Boutique partners stop calling • Recruiters learn your rate doesn’t fit their budgets My Advice Don’t price yourself like an Architect if you’re delivering as a Consultant or Admin. Subcontracting through partners is one of the best ways to maintain a steady workflow in areas you already understand without having to sell constantly. For most standard Salesforce Consultants, staying closer to $100/hr (skill-dependent) keeps the phone ringing. If you’re a Rainmaker, CTA, have a rare in-demand skillset, or run a team handling delivery, price for value at $150+. Most AEs are trained for the sales process. Almost none were trained for the execution layer. Activity targets. Pipeline coverage. More meetings and demos. Greater “momentum.” Run enough volume and something eventually closes. And to be fair …that worked when capital was free. You hit quota. So no one questioned the system. But many of the people sitting in your pipeline were never capital allocators. No economic ownership. Or mandate to fund anything. Limited reason to justify a business case internally. Just interest. Meanwhile, deals with real potential quietly lose priority when finance gets involved. Not because the product wasn’t strong. Because no one translated the solution into an investment the business could justify funding. That’s the execution layer. Where projects are evaluated on expected return, risk, payback, and impact on cash flow. Most sellers never adjust when the deal reaches that layer. They keep running process… …after the evaluation criteria has already changed. So the deal looks healthy in CRM. Good meetings. Positive feedback. Engaged stakeholders. Then the project loses priority. Interest is not a funding event. Capital allocation is. And capital discipline is tightening. Billions are flowing into AI infrastructure and data centers. That capital has to come from somewhere. It’s coming from your deal. That raises the bar for everything else competing for funding. Including yours. By 2027, average performance won’t just lose more deals. It will lose credibility earlier in the conversation. Because the execution layer requires economic judgment …not more activity. Most AEs were trained to generate pipeline. Very few were trained to generate investable projects. That gap is starting to show up in win rates, deal size, and which opportunities survive finance review. This isn’t a new sales methodology. It’s the decision framework executives already use. Execution layer fluency isn’t table stakes anymore. It’s the price of admission to the conversations that actually close. P.S. The execution layer is the phase of a capital decision where finance evaluates expected return, payback period, risk, and impact on cash flow. Many deals don’t die before this moment. They die inside it because the AE never learned to operate there.

GTM Engineering titles are exploding. From 2025 to 2026 we’re seeing growth in roles like: GTM Engineer Growth Engineer RevOps Engineer Revenue Systems Engineer Sales Automation Engineer Companies are realizing something: SDR's can work more efficiently with systems that generate pipeline automatically. It shouldn't replace your SDR's, it should increase their productivity. I'm working with GTM Engineer so I see it first hand. This trend will start with the Tech and SaaS companies and eventually gain momentum in professional services. Even in staffing and recruiting! Use the AI and automate the back office tasks like building lists, CRM updates, team communication, etc. Curious if others are seeing the same trend.
